Re: PAN HARD BAR AJUSTMENT

Panhard bar keeps the diff centered under the car. The bar should be relatively level with the ground so that the diff stays centered as the suspension moves up and down. With an adjustable bar, you can lengthen or shorten the bar to adjust the bar however there are no really good reference points on the car. Third gens are not symmetrical from side to side to get a good body to diff measurement.

Other than the advantage of an adjustable aftermarket bar, the best reason for an aftermarket panhard bar is stiffness so that it doesn't flex like an OEM panhard bar will do.

The other advantage is to aid in centering your rear should you lower the car. A lowered car requires a different length panhard rod.

The rear roll center changes with panhard height and angle. This has a big affect on handling.

A good starting point for a lowered 3rd gen is axle side down about 1". That lowers the bar 1/2" measured at center of bar. That "Guest" guy in the second link below goes by many names on this forum (vettruck, SlickTrackGod, and more...). His crabby personality got him banned so don't bother replying to any of his posts to ask him questions, but the guy knew his stuff though (crew chief of a minor league professional race team) so listen to him.

When you say "tighten handling", do you want the front to have less push, or make the back have less oversteer? It might just take a rear sway bar spring rate adjustment. If you don't have adjustable sway bar then sliding the bushings inward and outward on the axle tube can change things.

"Generally, a 1" change to the difference in mounting point heights of the panhard bar makes a noticeable handling change on dirt race cars (asphalt cars = 1/2"). A good rule of thumb is to keep the height difference of the panhard bar mounts to within 10% of the panhard bar's length (for example: 20" panhard bar = 2" maximum mounting height difference)."

Going off of their 10% rule, do you think this is overall length or center to center bolt holes? I'll need to check where I've got mine set at.

Center to center between holes is length of bar as installed in car. That's where the forces are considered to be applied to the bar.
