racing an automatic?

I have a 91 RS with a 305 TBI 700R4 but plan on swapping to a 350 and trying for low 13's or high 12's. I just got a new performance tranny installed that churp gears like a mother. now i just want to make sure i am racing right. What i do put one foot on brake and one on gas and rev it to about 2000-2500RPM, drop it in to first, then when its time to go...floor it and release the break and shift at around 4500RPM. Any comments or tips to give me?

for a basically stock tbi car you are gonna wanna hold out first gear until about 5000rpm, and hold second to about 4700. one big gain you can get when you get a good tranny dopen is to get a matched convertor. for a stock tbi car a 2400-2600 stall is great. for a slightly more modded tbi car (headers, open element, 3inch cat back......) you are gonna be looking at a 2600-2800 being more appropriate. if you go into the full 305tbi plan(yes this motor can make 275-300 at teh wheels) you are gonna want a 3400-3600 stall.

1. Pull it down into first gear. And drive to the line.
2. Mash the brake all the way to the floor.
3. Bring engine up against the convertor on a stock converter around 2200.
4. Release brake. Mash the loud pedal and drive it out.
5. Beat all ricers.
