Lol.. I dont have the budget for full nascar. I might get to a 604 latemodel one day. But that's enough for me. I think the street stock will be more fun for me though.
those cleeco's are great .that looks amazing so far,im jelly like mad.i changed my window sweeps,gta badged my car and got some rubber for 2 sets of my rims.
my bbs reps,got some nice continental rubber for them.these things have fought me since i got them.i tried to have a pair of tires put on ,they failed(cheap used crap)i went and got another pair(free)then i went to install them and now i need a delrin ring for my spacers about 1 mm(0.04") my trans am with a gta identity crisis(other than the wing,which i have ready to go on)

As a kid that fell in love with the old IMSA Camaros and knew since I was 14 I wanted a thirdgen racecar. This car is a dream. Amazing work!
thanks man. Yeah it has been so fun to build it and see my dream coming together. Sometimes i wish i could take a week or 2 off work and just get it done. But as i go i find other things i add. Which is good and bad.
for what you are doing you should almost get a dimple die setup,i honestly dont know a lot about them but im sure you could use it in multiple places for lightening and strengthening.i love the look as well.man o man...this car is really coming together,everything you do is another piece to a beautiful puzzle.i would love to do an scca/imsa/lemans style car sometime (a guys gotta dream,right)wide,low,fat,big wing,stupid power,straight cut gears,tube frame and caged to the max.something along these lines but for the street,maybe blown ls2 or 3.....

hey your pontiac is looking damn good too. I hope my paint comes out a little better once i buff it. But im not worried if it doesn't. Im building it to use it. I know the paint is going to get chipped and scuffed.
thanks,dealing with a bit of heat soak after a header install but if i dont drive like a fool(keep my foot out of it a little) it seems to be o.k.ive got a cam to swap in to this slow lg4 305 turd to hold me over till i get the 350 built with vortec heads and the hot cam.

the race car isnt mine,also the trans am from my understanding is a race car from the series similar to the white one above it.it looks evil,i want it.

im sure that transam is using the same fiberglass panels i am just the pontiac version. Norris Racing carries them still. But its not a kit. They are race car panels you would have to make fit like i did.
for the windshield straps. Well we'll see... Thats why they are flat black. But they are easy enough to remove if i do get hassled. Believe it or no those straps on the inside are considered more illegal than a huge supercharger over the roof in California.

might consider either wrapping your headers, or get the insulated covers for your harness. You could give it an old Nascar flare by putting the aluminum heat shields off the valve covers over the headers... But still think the wrap would do the best for you.

If you can make it to his shop... Its a racer and race fans dream. Old race cars everywhere. Fiberglass molds to make soo many different cars. You can get an entire third gen in fiberglass. Roof and all. He has 2 versions. Standard like my car, or reverse offset like this photo of Sappers car. They shortened the nose i think he told me 4" and stretched out the back that 4".
Got the inner A pillar plates welded in along with some misc tabs to mount the lower portion of the dash and the A/C control head. Just need to do a little touch up grinding and tear it all a part to paint.
Just to confirm, your front and rear fenders are fiberglass, right?
I just got an email back from Five Star asking about their '92 Camaro bodies. "They said the majority of the panels would be steel or aluminum with the exception of the roof and hood"

Wow! Thats really strange as when i talked to them they told me they didnt have the means to make the steel or aluminum panels, but they still had the molds for the fiberglass panels. I had talked to MikeHerrenbruck@fivestarbodies.com
and he said the molds were at their other facility but they could make them for me but i would have to wait for about 6 weeks. I said sure no problem so they made them.
but again keep in mind Norris Racing does make them. I was at his shop and saw the molds with my own eyes. He had every mold to make a 100% fiberglass car. I bought some of his fenders for my other car.
And actually i would probably recommend Norris over Five star as he was a bit cheaper but the main thing... If youre doing more of a street car like mine his are not offset for tire/wheel stagger. If you look at my car close you'll see the right side is about an inch wider. The Norris ones are the same left to right.

Yeah id go with Norris then. Whitson used them and they are symmetric. You can see more of their car on whitsonracing on FB. This is Norris's hood as well. Again same stuff used on the southwest tour cars in the 80's and 90's.
Filling my seams with metal to metal filler. Not as much progress as i had hoped. With the heat even in the shade the metal is now to hot to touch. And the metal to metal us setting up too fast. Oh well another day...
i threw a corvette flat tappet cam(L-82 .46" lift approx) a set of L31 vortec heads ,cleaned up and lapped all the valves/seats,cleaned up the ports ,bowls a little bit,LS6 springs,new viton seals and comp retainers.they are from a 350,they have 62 cc chambers .i didn't mill them because they are going on a 350 later so it will be like 8.5/1 or maybe 8 3/4 to 1 but will love crappy gas,lol),edlebrock rpm intake and holley 650 onto my old 305.should wake it up a little with 0.06" extra lift and some heads that can breathe and light the fire better.my first time diving deep into an engine,ive done lots of intakes,headers and minor stuff but this was kinda scary.
i fired it up,definitely didn't like 3/4 of a turn of preload so i backed it off about 1/4-1/3 of a turn and it FIRED UP!!!!
i broke in the cam(or started to) then noticed the thermostat was stuck and spewing water so i shut her down and
swapped it out.ill run water till the cam is broke in and i can confirm it wont boil over.i did stupidly leave the rad cap loose....
your car is looking sick,you need one of those old nascar sbcs in it and a 4 speed
I do have a front motor plate/ power steering mount from Hendrick Motorsports. And i thought about getting a claimer pan like i have on my street stock. But im not sure i want to go to the trouble of making the stock engine look nascar or just wait for down the road when i can afford to put a better engine in. Problem is california smog laws CARB. If i want to drive it legally i cant do much to the engine. Unless i swap to an LS which isnt very old school nascar at all. I have a killer sbc race engine i built years ago on the stand. but not California legal for anything newer than 1975. I dont know thats a project for down the road. I want to finish the interior and current welding and drive it a little before i worry about that. The car was quick stock. But no, not fast. We will see what the future brings.
i completely forgot about commie-fornia ,i know im from commieda so i know about the "pain in the a$$ rules" but once its safetied they generally leave you alone and they abolished the e-test fiasco finally.
i re setup my rockers and just went with a 1/3 turn preload till the cam is broken in and it sounds awesome,runs smooth as a v8 with a decent cam ,better heads and headers can sound .im happy as hell

there are some pretty cool valve covers that cover the coil packs on an LS and they make it look a lot like an sbc.
add a spider single plane intake and an efi throttle body(tbi style) and you will be rockin. they even have an adapter to run a distributor so you could even ditch the coil packs and stay carbed and have the potential for stupid horsepower but i get it.its easy to stay with whats there till everything else is figured out,then do the engine.

Glad to hear you got some time to get some of your to-do's done. Yeah a good cam and headers can make a v8 sound pretty awesome! Im happy for you... Its always good to be able really enjoy the fruits of you labor. And cruising the new power and sound is a great way to do it.
i wish it was mine,i just put it up as an example of an LS swap that doesn't look like an LS swap.of course if you look closely you see fuel rails and evenly spaced ports but to the unsuspecting eye its old school sbc
looking great but i had no doubt! i almost traded my trans am for a 79 formula but it was a total bondo buggy so i decided against it,it looked good from afar but far from good.
i did pump up the current 305 ,adter a quick spin i think the 150-160 horsepower number is bumped up a wee bit..may be close to 200-220 now. now i wait for the snow to GO AWAY
Yeah personally id rather have your 3rd gen over a 79. 77/78 for me i might consider... But i think id still stay with your 3rd gen. Engine is looking good!
i always wanted a second gen mainly for the looks,the first few years are my favorite 70-75 but always liked the bandit t/a as well....i test drove it,they sure don't handle anything like a good third gen though,heavy and kind of floaty.my car could drive circles around the one i drove/looked at.they just handle better and are 4-500 pounds lighter to boot.i had this chevelle and a black berlinetta camaro back in the day,then picked up a 5.7 iroc(that was a fun car)
you can see the camaro off to the right,i sure miss the 6 car driveway....ive moved since then and my daughter(whos on the car) is a young woman now,time fly's
