Re: headers $2000 GOING Big Block!

Ok.. so using the Exhaust hanger location (2 bolts ea both sides Parallel / across from ea other. making a Aluminum Bracket that will hold the Fuel Pump and filters..12AN line. this bracket will span left and right side. under fuel tank sorta.. 1/4" Aluminum Plate should be fine.. Line will be under the car.. inside the ground Effects. and under plastic panel in front wheel well. entering eng Bay from under the battery tray in front..this is my old placement for my NOS fogger set up back in the 90's. but this time. to a single Fuel Reg.. that will supply the DUEL Throttle bodys & duel Nitrous plates..

this is the 3rd and 4th set of A Arms I have had in hand to look at..Sphon on the left..and BMR on the right..
sphon 9 lbs endless adjustability. (your going to need that with Sphon) I tryed the K member for the stock steering set up...with 2 other sets of there a arms..
BMR 6lbs bolt in. align and run it.. basic A arm nothing wrong with that..

below..look close at the A arms..this was another trick set of Sphons. A arms...and the first set of there arms had the poly bushings..so yes tried all of theres.. in the end it was there K member that had wheel set back..and had the main tube had been cut on both sides to make room for the tie rods.. ya...nah..

Ok..Aluminum Fuel Tank is In.. fittings clear the rear trunk by 1/4". pig tail to the sending unit is done. going to use the power wire that went to the fuel pump to trip the relay and turn the Pump on.. so No fuel Pump Switch on the dash..(fingers crossed)

Filler neck is in also... (1996 Camaro Parts). just need to order a few 8AN O ring fittings for the tank breather/Vent that will run down to the stock GM stuff.

Below..with 1/4" to spare the Feed fittings are in.. can lay the lines in any Direction.

pig tail from the sending unit (wire wrap) and factory GM plugs set up..

Filler neck and Tank are now plumed in to ea other..

Re: headers $2000 GOING Big Block!

Test fitting of more parts...this fix was easy..

So..working with Sphone parts...is like
beating your head Against a rock.. it feels so good when ya stop... but until then.. Like the reinforcing plates they make under the camber plates.. but in order to use Sphone parts ya got to fix them First..

in order to fit the Bracket they make to fit A Camaro ya have to open up the lower stud bracket.. place in a Vice and Pull to open them up by 3/8"

Now to get the stud long enough to get a nut on the end ya have to cut the welds only on the back stud. and install a new bolt 1/2" longer. then Sphone uses.

Now the studs fit..clear the camber plate base..NOTE this plate might be thicker the Sphone USES..so this is Just fyi Fix if using Spohne lower plates and Founders Strut plates.
also ya dont have to weld in the new longer stud..the fit is tight..I peen around the bolt hole..then Tap to fit the new stud.. and run her in..
(M8 1.25 Metric.)
note the front studs look like they will just clear the top of the nuts..when torqued after alignment..

the top bearings are held in place with 12point (chrome bolts of course)

Re: headers $2000 GOING Big Block!

so some time off from the front end.. and working on the back end.. back 7/8 years ago. when I started this upgrade.. I did a mini tub on the car..ya know..remove the bump stops..move inner wheel well back a bit..well I did the driver side first..and after I FINISHED it up I moved on the the passenger side..when test fitting the wheels back on the car..i wanted to add another inch of room to the driver side (move the inner wall in more) as i could just get my finger in the room left for the tire...it was my first time doing this so by the time i got to work on the passenger side I cut more into the rib. thats in the forward part of the inner wheel well..(your not going to move it with a Hammer) so with it at 105 deg out side and nothing going on.. I added the room I wanted..

Pic Below shows the rib (black line mid) of inner wheel well above my filler panel I put in place. I hit it with a hammer 2lb. ya can see dents. it did not move

and yes..do not try to just remove the outer sheet/skin after removing the bump stops..just cut that crap out..its as thin and flimsy as paper..just replace it with 16ga with a slight bow outward to clear coil springs/coil overs..

anyway..that rib was to close to the 325/50/15's and I wanted more room..the lower part is OK.

I use 22ga sheet to make my panels..I tryed to make it out of 1 sheet..had it done..but I did not Like the looks of it..I had to form it with a ballpeen and Vice..in the end I used 2 piece to make the filler panle after moving the rib it (a pie slice if you will) from the rib..and then tacking the plates to the rib and the rest of the wheel well..then sealing with panel filler..paint and a thin undercoat. seen..just sprayed.. the top and bottom look like a sharp slope..but it thins out a bit softer then it looks..but its all done...AND FITS TO THE INSIDE PLASTIC.. now all the wheel well sits flush from the plate covering the springs to the front and back inner well..

doing all the small stuff..fit this. trim that..as soon as the motor mounts come back from Chrome plating. I can set it up for the Front Plate..then start putting it all together..

Re: headers $2000 GOING Big Block!

test fitting the radiator..wow..talk about close to the Idler arm mount glad I had 5x 20 AN fittings for this thing.. even with a 45 deg 20AN fitting..it is close..Earls makes a tighter short 45deg fitting. its on the way $77.

as you can see the fitting i have now is a bit to long.. (type of 45deg)

it put it to close to the idler arm for me..it fits..but i want a bit more room. as when the front end guy starts to align the car I dont want him close the the AN fitting..will also buy a 2nd set of camber plates. So there will be no marks on the chrome..then when i get home i can install the chrome units..and sell off the.. unless they like Pizza..and Know what there doing..

just using a good seam seal to run 2 beads on the bottom of the radiator. let it dry.= a bit stiffer then silicone.. and no need for rubber. + Its white..make sure it has low sag..if you order it.. the trans cooler will go in front of this unit..it also has a Fan. and will be set up to blow into the 2 fans on the inside..

Re: headers $2000 GOING Big Block!

steering box..and small stuff..did have to Up Grade to 1/2" bolts to the motor mounts..the ARP bolts are to small in diameter. and let to much movement when it was all bolted in..now nothing wiggles/moves..and no front plate yet..but having one made..AGR steering box.. 1 &1/4 turn lock to lock..test fit..smooth even with out the eng running it..picked it up used cheap..took it apart to have it plated..thinking I would Kit it and put it back together..but the parts inside are not Stock GM parts. and a Kit would not work/fit.. had to send it to AGR had have them make it new.. I like it..just wish sombody would make a Billet Aluminum Steering box..now that would be cool.. this thing is like 35lbs..

You need a 600 series steering box, I think they drop 7-10 lbs

Re: headers $2000 GOING Big Block!

cool thanks for the heads up..they are out of stock at this time.and not taking back orders..if i upgrade later.I will go Power Rack and Pinon... I have a place in town that can machine down the out side of my steering box..(wish i would have found them before I plated the box) they could have taken all of the crap off the box and taken the body of it down.. and make the out side of the box trick looking.. might have them do a stock box and see what it looks like.. a test run if you will I would have had this box taken down to the min..

its a easy plate job..I did steering box spindles. brackets brake dust shields.. a tone of parts for like $60 ..put it this way I can do a Entire rear end for $60..chrome on the other hand? well just the mounts and the steering cap ran $250... (I was told it would be $180) think they are taking advantage of me now...lol) I always let them think there is more coming...

$250 to plate at this rate I might have to go back to work...before summer is over...don't want to...took it off to work on the car..

the new 20AN fitting is in.. and fits like a glove.. can install it without having to move the Radiator around to get it on and leavs room for the Idler arm.

Earl's Not as nice looking the red horse.. But fits like I wanted 100% and only paid $70 for it!!

Re: headers $2000 GOING Big Block!

cant use the Factory Fans (I wanted to) they work so well for me in the past.. but I do not have room.. the fan bodys are at 5.1/2" deep the power steering and alternator are 6.1/2 deep and run to close to belts and just not room for me to feel good about it.. so ordered this from the same place that made (made) my Radiator not just sells them.. wanted 100% fitment.. they tell me it's less then 3" deep total.. going to install the trans cooler and fan on the front side blowing inward ..and run the lines to bulk head fitting down under the support..

SCOOTER is going to the the Harness..Im still test fitting parts. the fans are the only thing I cant use at this time test fitting parts..I could use them but it would be to close for me..and I want 2 to 3 inchs from the back of the fans to the front of the alt and power steering pulleys. It will just look better I think. leave room to work and things to Move.

The front Plate I want made I want to run under the Balancer/front of Pan. and not bolt under the water Pump.. using the 4 large bolts on the front of the block Ea side of the timing belt..they make them like this for sprint cars..just want it made for me and the BBC in My Camaro..simple and it works..this is a ball park shape. will span from inner fender frame rail/side to side.. and go over the steering box..

Re: headers $2000 GOING Big Block!

working on the front plate mock up to get it Machined..going with 1/2" plate then have it milled down to 1/4" in places for fitment. And looks.
have to add some Cardboard in a few places. to shape then when done.. lay it out and make one in 1 piece.. snug fit to body..then trim to fit..and polish.

what it will look like when done..but for a big block..the end OVER THE steering box will be a bit Different..as I have to make room for the Hoses.think of a Arch over it.. and My aluminum Oil pan needs a bit more room in the front.part of the 1/4" milling im getting done..

Re: headers $2000 GOING Big Block!

so the Fans and shroud came in. and fits 100%.. might have to upgrade the fans to get over 3500CFM.. but will try them out to start with..there is room for 2 x13" fans..the 2x12s they sent me look small. Any way they do free up more room in front..All fasters are Button Head SS with Nyloc nuts.

I used seam seal on the bottom.. sort of a tough rubber hard rubber type stuff.. no need to cut up mounts..set to the Hight ya want with a bead as thick as ya need..let it sit over night..and then try it. if it's to High..it can be take it down with a flapper wheel.. its a cleaner install. And will never just fall off..
the thing with the seam seal is it has low sag rates. so it will be in the same place ya put it the next day.. ya can get it in black and white. even Gray..

Re: headers $2000 GOING Big Block!

the trans cooler has its own fan..was going to try to place it In front of the radiator. with its lines ending in bulkhead fitting under the battery try..(ballpark) then run back to the trans. this way it don't have to play with anything up front If making swaps..(if need be)..

Re: headers $2000 GOING Big Block!

with all the work done to the radiator support. I just hate to cut it..would like to take it to the shop and have one done in Billet..to the exact fit..but that would take another 2 weeks if I was lucky.. so..the

with all the finish work done it looks nice..but the Bowtie will be getting cut from the support. and just a lip left to hold the top of the Radiator.

I did not Make this..all I did was work the welds out and have it polished..wish I could save it...(the bowtie) it's sort trick looking..ya dont see it..at first..it sorta gets missed..

also having to open the 2 fan holes in the shroud by 1" in diameter. having to buy a 2nd shroud..as I cant stand the holes left from the 1st set of fans...OCD sucks!
