Re: "Black Jack" 1982 Camaro Strip Street car
mine is 2950 with me at 250lbs. this has all glass, power windows, and only fiberglass is the hood. my interior still has a very complete "feel" to it too with carpet and plastics. it can be done. i always get "what did you remove to get that weight?" type questions. the answer? look at everything. determine if your requirements need that component for function. if no, ditch it. if yes, the next question in your brain should be "can i make it lighter". that's how you deal with this.

Have pulled out quite a bit as the car is nothing but a race car now. But I am following the same principal as what Walter said. Remove where possible and every ounce adds up.

Lol, works the other way too. I added dynomat, sub woofer/amps, extra sound deadening, nitrous system 9" rear etc. Weighed 3600# with driver (150#) before all the additions. Probably well over 3700# now. Pig happy.

Alright been a while and not it is the off season. Finished this season running low 14's high 13's. Since we have one more year left of the track here before it closes I've decided to go big or go home. Planning to have the car in the 11's in 2018. Plans are a 385 stroker (bottom end built top end is coming together), 10 point cage, 4.11 gears in a 9" rear end, may do a trans brake if money allows.
Right now I have the current engine ready to come out and am starting to mock up the cage. Looking forward to some fun next year.

I'm not too far away from an 11 second myself (and I think the altitude correction factor is a big player here) but what I'm finding is that the last couple of tenths are the toughest to come by. If you can get traction, I think your approach with the shorter gearing and trans brake will be a big step. A 1.6x 60' time and crossing the stripe at or near the engine red line will be a real difference. This is taking into account that your engine package is sorted out well enough. It's what I would need to get over the hump. That and a 385...With my 3650 lbs w/ driver (at 200) a few hundred pounds in weight reduction would make a difference too.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Well it's been a bit since updating things. After spending the first of this year in the 12's the good ole 10 bolt gave out. Put a 9" with 4.30 gears and a trans brake in the car. Now she is running mid 11's and still has some more to tune into her. Not bad for being in Utah and the DA being an average of 7,500 feet.

Congrats, its amazing what a set of gears and a trans-brake will do for your 60ft and et.
