First EVER test and tune

Hi guys, thought i'd share my first ever experience at the drag strip (driving, not watching I mean). My car is an 84 Z28, and I've got a 383 stroker, aluminum Edelbrock Performer RPM heads and intake, Lunati 60103 cam. I'm still running the stock 700r4 with the stock converter (I know, huge downfall there, I should be running at least 2400 stall --> already bought a vigilante 2600, just haven't put it in yet, same with shift kit, vette servo etc.) I was also running Mickey Thompson street tires (Sportsman radials). SO, I ran 9.85 in the 1/8th mile with a .342 R/T. I know the car is faster, but it was my first time! Still getting used to it. With all the trans upgrades and maybe a small set of slicks, who knows how quick I'll be Any and all input is appreciated!!

First thing obviously is seat time. As far as other things, remove the front sway bar this will help weight transfer and therefore traction. Seems to me that with your mods you should be a lot quicker so I would work on traction and things to improve 60' times....and get that converter in asap

Re: First EVER test and tune

haha! Yes exactly, the bug has certainly bit me. Twice maybe Absolutely will be putting in the converter before my next outing (same with the vette servo and maybe shift kit) and I've picked up a used set of slicks. Just need wheels to put them on. thanks for the input, I plan to get some more seat time. And yes, I built this motor to go faster than 9.8's in the quarter!!

Re: First EVER test and tune

I put the .570" boost valve and the purple pressure regulator spring from TCI in my 700r4 No "shift kit". It shifts much nicer now

Re: First EVER test and tune

I've been told that by a few people. Normally it's the .500 boost valve, but it amounts to the same. It's a nicer shift and not as tooth rattling as some of the shift kits are. I think I'm going to start with the converter and the vette servo, and see about the shift kit install down the road. If I can get a hold of a .500 boost valve, and perhaps a meatier pressure regulator spring, that could go in too. Don't know when I'm going to the track next, but at very least the converter and servo should be in. I'll update after my next run!

Re: First EVER test and tune

Id definatly do the pressure spring and the boost valve at the same time since they are in the same place. IIRC they only 60 bux for both
