new style pontiac cowl hood from vfn?

Anyone on here run one? If so do you have pictures of it installed?

I have never been a fan of the previous cowls for these cars (82-92 firebird, trans ams) and curious of the look of the new style. No offense to anyone who has the other style. I would really like them to put that sunoco mold on a pontiac flat hood!!!

Pics?

Pontiac never have a cowl induction hood.

Are you talking about a Ram Air hood?

Re: new style pontiac cowl hood from vfn?

I think he is talking about the Jongbloed/Sunoco hood for 3rd gen Camaros, where the raised section follows the indentions on the hood. On the Firebird, the indentions are narrow at the front & wide at the back so it would be like an angled cowl induction hood. The Camaros indentions are straight back, much like the traditional cowl induction hood scoop is.

With the Sunoco style hood, there are no indentions because the raised section follows them, making it wider.

Also known as the Jongbloed hood.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...ood-sunco.html

Here is something similar as the IMSA style, but can't really tell how it foolows the indentions. Doesn't like it does 100%. Bad pic but all they have.

Re: new style pontiac cowl hood from vfn?

I am familiar with the jongbload hood, had one on my car since 2002. But it is not a "new style pontiac cowl" as the title says.

Re: new style pontiac cowl hood from vfn?

I looked at vfn's site.

They have a firebird cowl, looks like an "outlaw style" hood.

It's big. Would look good on a wicked street strip car. Would not put it in something unless it runs 10's or better, IMO.

I know it is nothing new, but thought that maybe that was what he was referring to.

Sorry didnt add pics or links.. Ill work on it. I will need a pretty tall hood to clear this new combo I had a ram air style before and it will def not clear anymore i may sell it on here but it will just be a pain unless they are local.

This is the new revised cowl it used to be much boxier than it is now.

And here is the sunoco cowl offered for the camaro.

It may just be me but damn would that flow well with the bird lines. Mine is a 91 with the aero package as well. (pontiac of course)

Re: new style pontiac cowl hood from vfn?

Keep in mind it is a tall setup that has to stay under the hood. In ultra street trim no forward facing scoops, and it will have a cross bar plate on this intake with a dominator:

Re: new style pontiac cowl hood from vfn?

Like I said, on a bad street car that needs the clearnace ( like yours) I think the hood would look killer.

On a stock 305 car it would be lame.

What VFN calls a Sunoco is nowhere near what a Sunoco hood looks like. See the one blackenbird posted that is the true Sunoco, designed by Mr. Jonbloed for the Sunoco Race team.

Re: new style pontiac cowl hood from vfn?

It would be overkill for a stock street car that I agree.
My application isnt much of a street car.

Idk what the right term for it but thats the look id really like to have on my car.

Here is a slightly older model than mine with a custom one off version, its a little different but close to what I want.

Re: new style pontiac cowl hood from vfn?

Really shocked no one has tried the new mold really. In any case I got an email back from them saying they do have 2 new molds in the works for these cars.

As much as I love the camaros as that was my first car this will give the bird owners some better looking options and hopefully see more being built instead of scrapped

Is that the VFN hood? Me no likey. I can see it as "good" from a pure functional aerodynamic standpoint, but I see nothing aesthetically pleasing to the eye about it.

The white car pictured was a custom one off deal done by a chassis shop to clear his turbo piping nothing to do w vfn.

Good. Got a pic of this new VFN one? I looked through all the pics in this thread & saw nothing like the original Camaro Sunoco hood on a 'bird.

The term Sunoco obviously has no reference to his original design. Do more searches of that term and see they typically are a rounded cowl like u see there.

I know what the original Jongbloed/Sunoco 3rd gen hood that is made for 3rd gen Camaros is. And that new VFN one looks nothing like it.

I plan on running one on my 92 T/A. I was going to go with an RA1 but I'm with you. I think this hood on an aero banshee will look awesome. I'll post up picks when I get it. They're local to me so I'm hoping to pick on up in the spring.

Not sure what you mean it's a VFN 6" cowl induction hood
it clears my intake, carb, air filter and supplies a TON of fresh cool air to this 10 second 1/4 mile machine.

It serves a purpose and flows with the body lines of the car.

I like it, what anyone else thinks is no concern of mine.

I never said anything negative. Usually a cowl gradually rises and flattens out, that one doesn't. The VFN hood talked about in this thread is a the new "sunoco" cowl hood. I think it's a least a 4", look awesome IMO.
