241 MPH Twin Turbo '82 Firebird
I was wondering if any of yall knew about this car and record run near my hometown. My brother actually works with this guy at Michael Waltrip Racing, my brother is a Test Engineer and Eric Yost is a Chassis Fabricator. This obviously isn't brand new news or anything, but I never posted it on TGO after my brother told me and I haven't seen it, so I decided to put up some of the details and a link.

LOL, only three seconds of full throttle and he still hits over 241 MPH.
This is about 40 mins from where I live at and 15 mins from where my brother lives. I am hoping to meet this guy the next time I go up to MWR to see my brother. I'd like to drive my Firebird though and I have some work to do on it before it hits the road again (mainly tires).
It is nice to know our cars will go this fast and is a testament to GMs aerodynamic body style, especially the Firebirds (sorry Camaro owners )
What do you guys think of this beast?

While the former WWII airbase runway just outside Maxton, North Carolina, will never be mistaken for a new-age F1 circuit-with the original concrete still loose and crumbly in a few spots, it's no pool table-the upgraded surface along with Maxton's 220-foot elevation and the weekend's absolutely perfect weather enabled some unprecedented performances. Eric Yost went 241.4086 mph in his twin-turbo '82 Firebird to win the Super Street category in the HOT ROD Challenge, recording the fastest speed ever for a four-wheeled vehicle on the Maxton Monster Mile. Meanwhile, the Waddell Bros., Frank and Larry, won the Real Street title at just over 200 mph in their Chevy-powered RX-7. These are stout speeds indeed for nominally street-driven vehicles in a standing-start mile-just the kind of achievements the HOT ROD Top Speed Challenge(tm) was designed to celebrate.
But Eric was just getting his twin-turbo Firebird dialed in. Without attracting much attention, he quietly ran 233-plus late on Saturday afternoon, and in the perfect conditions at 9:30 on Sunday morning, he uncorked the 241 pass. And there's more left, Eric says, noting that on the killer run, his data-acquisition system showed that the throttle was at 100 percent for only a little more than three seconds.

Known of this car for a long time. Competed in drag week alot, solid running sbc. 7 sec 1/4 miles. I'd love to see this car run the texas mile in its all out performance tune with perfect traction and full throttle blast the entire way. Would be interesting to see how it stacks up against the supercars

I'm hoping to check it out in person if the guy is at MWR when I go next time and is willing to let me come take a look. But it's always a crap shoot who is in the garage at the time you show up and who is flown across the country. I think my brother can set it up though.

Re: 241 MPH Twin Turbo '82 Firebird
thats just sick i was planning on trying to break the 200mph mark this summer in my iroc on the salt flats 427sb twin 76mm turbos
the car could prolly go alot faster but cost of saftey equipment will be prohibiting me from going over 205 at that point there would be so much stuff in the car id no longer be able to street drive it

I think I could take 200 on salt flats or an air strip like Eric did near my hometown if I had all the safety precautions, but I wouldn't want to go faster than 160 on the street. 135 was plenty for me riding in a '71 427 Vette and in those cars (anything that old) it feels like you are going double that speed even on the highway.
