Ford 9" 4.11 gears and a spool. 80w90 cheap advance auto brand gear oil. Some gear companies suggest straight up dinosaur oil

Re: drag car gear oil?
75w90 MasterPro synthetic from O'Reilly for my car.
the guys that really get into it use lightweight redline oil (not sure what weight) but it doesn't stay cool enough (too light) for street driving. i wouldn't go lighter than a 75w90 for the street, probably heavier for certain posi's (i don't know much about them other than one eaton i used many years ago)

I've got a spool in mine so I don't need any additives. 75W90 Lucas synthetic in mine.

Re: drag car gear oil?
I run MLS head gaskets. Give them a shot of brake clean to clean them up. Spray them with a copper spray and put them back on the block. I'm not sure how many times I have this set off and on.
Same with the diff oil. Drain it out into a clean container. If it looks clean, pour it back in and reuse it. I've reused my tranny oil a few times also. Doesn't smell burnt, still looks clean, pour it back in.
Engine oil is about the only thing I dump out after it's gone through the engine. Too much alcohol and moisture contamination to say it good to reuse.

I clean the hg's the same way, but we spray them with a silver spray-paint before installing. Seems to give them a sort of "hi-tack". - We've actually done the same with composition head gaskets for many years on lesser apps & re-used them any time they weren't torn. Never had one leak.
