rear shocks for drag car
im doing some upgrades to the 9inch pretty soon. the rear shocks that are on the car now are the ones that were on it when i bought it. that was almost 10 years ago. im looking for a good drag shock. something adjustable. its for a high 9 sec car with a trans brake. it hooks ok now (best of 1.37) but i know it will do better.

12 way adjustable
A single adjustable will work fine but if you have the extra money, get a double adjustable. Being able to adjust compression and extension separately allows you to fine tune the shock settings better.

AFCO if you can afford it, but the next choice would definitely be strange.

Re: rear shocks for drag car
jri, afco ,strange in that order.. jri is probably overkill for all but 2-3 guys on this site but the afco is a great high end budget oriented shock. I have tons of strange products and cant knock any of them either but I will be running afco doubles out back.. just my .02

if im going to spend that much on rear shocks, wouldnt it be better to spend a little more and get coil overs.

Re: rear shocks for drag car
i have afco's with stock rear springs. you dont have to do coilovers... but they help when trying to make more room for tires, and they allow ride height changes a little easier. you also may have a hard time fitting coilovers in the car with the stock gas tank.

Re: rear shocks for drag car
Afro here, but if your going to spend the $ do it right. Convert both side to bearing mounts to eliminate the bind. Check out the mounts madman and racecraft sells. If it's not in the budget to alter the bottom side just put a spacer on the stock lower shock stud to space the shock of the mount and it will accept a bearing mount. The only potential problem with the stock stud/spacer is that you will be putting the stud in single shear but I know plenty of guys doing it.

Is this the mount you're talking about for the lower?
