Tire Width

Can I fit 315 street slicks on my 92 camaro. I went to the track with brand new 255 dunlop sp sport 5000 tires and had 60' times of over 3 second, and I only had 3.08 gears with posi. I need traction!

315-wide tires won't help as much as Drag Radials would. Yes, you can fit them with the right backspacing and such, but the edges of the tires will -just- line up with the outside edge of the quarter panel. Last fall, I was able to pull 60-foot times of 1.9x seconds with my nearly-bald Comp T/A ZR's (255/50ZR16), although I also have a 2400 stall converter and the track was quite sticky. I'd say you need to either refine your launch technique (more or less burnout, don't bring the engine revs up while on the line, don't go to 100% throttle until you're out of the hole, etc). With 275/50R15 Drag Radials with too much air pressure, my new 355 engine, and the converter now stalling at 2600 rpm, I was able to pull 60-foot times in the mid to high 1.8 second range.

Cleaning up my launch is plan B, because when I drop the clutch and go full throttle, I can hit lights consistently between .503 and .508, but when I'm nice to the car and ease out on the clutch my r/t's jump to high .6's or worse, so that's why I wanted traction first.

Thanks for the info.

If you want traction at the track then stay away from the street tires and buy some real slicks. Buy another set of rims and change them at the track.
