Well what do you guys think?
Everyone tells me "NO WAY" but I think it can happen.
I'd like to try and if you guys got any info or done it or seen it done could you please let me know.
Yea in time I'll switch to a moser 12 bolt with better gears but till then I'm stuck hear.
Thanks!

You just need lots of HP. When I had my 383 I ran 11.8's with 3.27 gears.

I've gone 12.18 with 3.27 gears. Just installed 3.73's (still a 9 bolt) and dropped about 350 lbs from the car. Will see how that does in a few weeks.

Miles,
Is it OK to get info about your 3.73 in a 9 bolt project??

don't know if this is what he is using or not, but TPIS just started selling 3.73 gears for the 9 bolt. Check out the new products on their website.

TPIS is actually selling 3.70 gears ie 37/10 not 3.73 ie 41/11. The 11 tooth pinion on the 3.73 is stronger than the 10 tooth pinion on the 3.70. I will also have a variety of gears available from 3.2 to 4.1 along with new carriers and some other stuff. If you want to know when parts are available, send me an email and I will put you on the mailing list. Right now, it looks like some of the 4.1 gears and carriers will be ready next week.

You ask for some info on the exhaust I have so I'll tell you about it. It is a custom exhaust put on by a custom exhaust shop. I have to stay in emmision legal status so I have 2 cats and 2 mufflers one on each side or pipe. The pipes are 21/4" each and they follow the standard layout of the regular exhaust. My 2 cats are cheapo's from J.C.Whitney and fit under the same spot the regular cat would fit. I just need to put more insulation under the carpet on the passenger side since the wife says the floor get too warm in the summer time, hehe. Then both pipes run next to the driveshaft to the rear axle and over it. Then I have one pipe on each side of the gas tank. The mufflers are small cylinder types right before the bumper and next to the gas tank sides, not too close you know.
I've calculated it out that the 21/4" pipes flow just a little more than a 3" cat back system so I'm good to 350 -375 HP.
The sound is totally different from a cat back system and is a very deep rich sound, I think it can be compared to and Big Block sound, but that is me and I think the cam helps too. When I go WOT it is nothing less than LOUD so I don't do it too often and never around cops. The cat back systems gives and equal sound out of each tip but with mine and the cam it is lopey and you get the alternating sound coming from each pipe.
Some people say that with all the bends I'd have flow problems but no, plus all bends are manderal(spelling) bends. It takes a little while for the O2 sensor to get hot enough to put the car in close loop in summer time and really long in winter time, I can see the rpms change back and forth as it goes into close and open loop. But it does go into closed loop and stay there!
Also idling through parking lots I have been know to set of a few alarms and chrips from cars.
If I can get a digital camera I'll try to put the car up and take some pictures else I'll have to use my 35mm and send the pictures in a week or two. Ok?
Anything else you need let me know.
Please send me your email address cause the one you have listed didn't work.

I'm hitting 14.0 at 98.93 with a 2.16 60ft with 2.77 gears in an '89 IROC 350 AUTO. All I have is headers, catback, no cat, coil, k&n's, ARAP chip, AFPR, and ported plenum. Stock intake, heads, cam, runners and suspension. I definately feel she had a 13.9 run in her......... I just got to work on those 60ft times with my street tires.

If you have a machine shop make you a 1/4 inch ring gear spacer, you can run the 3.70 gear ratio for the "3 series carrier" in a "2 series carrier". If you have any questions, let me know.

13.4 e.t is my best with a 2:77 ratio and that run was with a 2.24 60' time , 104 degrees out, on drag radials, stock lower control arms and torque arm. I think that with better suspension, a set of slicks and good weather, I would have reached the 12 second goal. I have since swapped in a set of 3:70 gears, so I will never know what the 2:77 could have done...
