1/8 mile time multiply by 1.55 to get 1/4 mile so a 16.0 1/4 mile would be 10.3's in the 1/8.

anymore? the drag strip im going to uses the IHRA rule book and some provisions of its own. I have to give them a dial-in(my predicted 1/8mile time)if i run over it i automatically lose, if me and my opponet both go over its whoever is the fastest(i believe). if i go under it,
i lose if my friend runs his dial-in, but if we both go under, the persin who wins is the person who runs closest to his/her dial-in. judgung by just two posts it should be about 11 seconds falt....how complicated is it? do i need to mark off an 1/8 on the road and go run it on the street or what?

I don't know the IHRA rules but every race I've attended, you should get at least 1 time trial run to see how fast you will run on that day. Depending on car counts you could get 3-4 time trial runs.

From what you're describing, it's a simple ET bracket race. Once you get at least 1 time trial run and determine an ET that you will run, that's what you put on your windows.

If you run quicker than your dial in, you break out and lose. If you both run quicker than your dial ins the the one who breaks out the least wins. That's what makes bracket racing so hard. Speed means nothing. You need to cut a good light and run as close to your predicted dial-in without breaking out. Watching a bracket race from the stands is boring. When you actually have to figure out what the car is going to do and do that every time you win a race isn't as easy as it looks.

If for some strange reason they won't give you a time trial run, try dialing in at 10.5. This will give you some grace for tire spin, etc. If you manage to hook up and have the lead before the 1/8 mile, then hit the brakes to slow down and cross the finish line before your oponent does. This will keep you from breaking out if you dialed in too slow.

The main reason you should get at least 1 time trial run is that a car will run very differently from day to day as weather conditions change. The only people that don't need a time trial run are those who have been racing for a long time and have many logs on how the car reacts to different weather and track conditions. They could arrive at the track, write a number on the windows and run that number. DOn't expect to be able to do that for a while. This is my fourth year racing and I still can't do that.
