Octane Boost?????
Would it be wise to get premium gas and then add some octane boost to my car. I heard that it wouldnt combust as well in my 305 V-8
I was just wondering what I should do to get the best fuel preformance.

the octane that an engine needs to live depends on the compression and the timing that you run. a stock 305 with stock timing can live on 89octane pretty well, if you increase the timing to about 6degrees advance then you would need to run a higher grade of fuel, like 92octane.
stay away from octane boosters, they are a waste of money. those points that they claim to add to the rating of the fuel are on the right hand side of the decimal. when they shoot "adds 3 points" it means adds .3
hope this helps

I can also tell you that the octane ratings you see at the pump are minimums. Meaning that 89 octane has to be at least a minimum of that for it to be rated that way.
I used to be a pump jockey and always chit-chatted with the delivery guy. He was in cahoots with the man that owned all of the local Shells in our area. He told Gregg (the truck driver) that the last time Shell checked their octane in the 89, it was 91 octane. The 92-93 stuff was right around 93-94. That's always about what it is, that way they make sure they pass the minimum standards. So if you buy 89, just know that it's really a little higher than what the pump sticker says.
Please know that I only heard this about Shell. I dunno about the other gas companies.
