Autocross and SFC's....

Well, I've got a pair of SFC's I haven't welded in yet, but plan on welding them in this spring. I really want to stiffen up my chassy and quiet up my creaky car. I also plan to FINALLY race some autocross this spring. Does anyone know if SFC's and sutocross can live in harmony?!?!

I plan on racing in Connecticut, what are the rules here? Will I just be put in a higher class? I don't care if I'm racing Mopeds or Ferarri's, I just want to RACE!

hey,

you can race in SCCA Autocross with subframe connectors. The only problem is that it automatically jumps you up to Prepared Category. This means you'll be classed with full-out race-only cars. Funny thing is that if you wanted to put in a roll cage, you'd still be legal for a lower class, but with the same reslutls as subframe connectors (except there would be some added weight). I guess the SFCs will probably be nicer on the unibody than running without them. Make sure all you're suspension and steering stuff is in order too.

You can't put in a Roll Cage and run in the lower class. You can put in a Roll BAR, and stay in the Stock and Street Prepared classes. If you put any bars forward of the main hoop on a roll bar it becomes part of chassis strength, and puts you in C Prepared. A roll bar is considered 'safety equipment'.

As for the SFC's, we have a Street Modified class down here that allows the use of SFC's. Check with your local region for details

Street Modified would make more since. SFC's don't really make much of a performance difference, at least not enough to classify it as an all out race car.

hey sorry about he misinfomation. I guess I was a little confused and it's been a while since I've looked throught the rulebook too. embarrassing (see if it edited that for the three letter a word ).

I haven't autocrossed since the inception of the street modified class but that sounds like the way to go If you want to use SFCs I guess.

In SM you can only use 2 point SFC's, 3 point connectors like the Kenny Brown double diamonds still go to Prepared. Of course if you are just out to drive hard and have fun, being in CP shouldn't bother you too much (as long as you don't mind coming in last in your class).

I had SFC and other tricks. I had to go into the Street Modified (SM) class. An intresting class, everyone from supercharged cars to Saturns. Good chance for better placing. Note: If you aren't worried about points and placement go into the (SM). It's blast. good luck

Um, I hate to say it, but you can. Roll cages are allowed in stock classes and SP. If you read the Solo rulebook, the front can only be *bolted* in, however I believe this has now changed to allow fully welded cages.

Just FYI...

If I'm not mistaken the new rule in the latest Fasttrack news is that the SCCA board ruled that since IT cars (Improved Touring) that are basicly race cars with cages are allowed to run in respective Street Prepared classes, it would be in the best intrest of fairness to allow SP (Street Prepared) cars to weld in a 6-point cage that is behind the firewall. this allows chassis strength while staying within the boundrys of SP.
