big time traction problem

hi guys, this is off the topic of 3rd gen camaros but since you guys know your stuff, ld like to ask of your advice. My brother's got a 1971 monte carlo thats been modded extensively its got a 468 in it with a holley double pumper 850 CFM edelbrock performer low rise intake forged 10.5/1 compression forged crank and rods. roller cam. the trans is a TH 350 thats been rebuilt, and a 4.10 rearend gear. its got a shift kit and a 2,500 stall we have traction bars on it and its been raised up a couple inches to fit the big meats under it. problem is the tires on it, theyre (l'd venture to guess) about 13-15 inches wide, and theyre on 15 inch centerline drag rims. now the the main problem: the tires on the thing although big dont hook for anything. theyre called futuras l think, does anyone know of those? heres my question: should we lower the car to receive more traction? get ladder bars? get some slicks on it? lower it and slicks? we're at a low budget here and dont wanna do too much stuff to it, thanks a lot guys, l really appreciate it.

Slicks will hook you up. Futuras are an economy performance(if you will) tire. Even though you have the huge tires, I'm guessing there a 275/50/15 or maybe even a 295/50/15, right?? , they won't hook like even a 8" slick will. My brothers truck runs 12.40's in the 1/4 on a set of 10" slicks, but he's got a set of 295/50/15 BFGoodrich radials that he uses for driving it to car shows or cruise-ins on a 12" Convo Pros, that are actually HUGE compared to the slicks, but the truck will spin them at 50 MPH in 3rd gear, so even though are huge tires they are also hard as pavement, and will not get sticky even if you do a "Top Fuel" style burnout on them. The slicks will stop the spinning, but later on you'll probably want to get the ladder bars or something similiar to help weight transfer and straighter launches, but buy the slicks first! Remember that even with the best suspension in the world, its the the tire that actually touches the ground.
