460 horsepower...what kind of times could i see?

Im building up a 350 right now to throw in my 91RS...The guy who is gonna help me build it says i should have around 430-460 horsepower...I know the stock gears are gonna be really ****ty...but what kind of times do you think ill see with the stock rear-end? How about when i throw in a posi with 3.73's? What kind of times can i expect then?

Depends on if you can get the power to the ground. Wheel spin could be a real problem. If you can get the car to hook up, I'd guess mid 12's should be easy but without dyno sheets to back up the claim I'll raise that to high 12's. Depends a lot on car weight, traction, tranny and torque converter stall choices, suspension etc.

Putting an 800 HP engine into a car and expecting it to run 9's because someone said it will can be disappointing if the car isn't designed for it.

Well once i get the engine in im going to be still uprgrading everything to get it to run better. I dont expect an 11 second monster with stock everything except the engine. Im just wondering what kind of times i might expect with the stock rear end, tranny, suspension. Im not going to be taking it to the dragstrip yet, not untill i get everything done to it, but can i expect to waste most other cars on the street? With 460 horses should i be able to beat a mustang GT or 4th gen z28 with stock rear and suspension still?

If your motor is gonna put out 420-460hp, flyweel or rearweel, you're gonna chew up your stock tranny and rear in no time.In the process you will make chumps and suckers of all mustangs and 4t Gens, respectively.
As far as your times, back in '89 I had a 69 Camaro w/a B&B LT1/383,11.5:1,850 holley and I could use up a booklet to list al the goods it had.All brand new Hi-Per parts from a 452RWHP motor to 12 bolt 4:10 rear.
As far as ET, w/Mickey Thomson street slicks(50s, If memory serves),I did, best time: 11.34 at 124mph.The tire noise was delecious. I was gonna have the rear shortened and tubbed to put really fat-*** ires on it, but chose to keep the full size gas tank(10mpg). It was a street car and I didn't wanna go all out.
W/the right traction it was a 10 second car and it should have been able to lift the front tires.
Mike
PS.The '69RS(originally a S6)****er had drum brakes all around.It would stop an a mile of dimes.LOL

Ill find out for you when the guy calls me back. He desktop dynoed the engine at 460 horsepower...so im assuming anywhere from 430-460. To tell you the truth ill be happy with anything over about 375. Im working on a website for him, so hes been working on the combination for me and hes going to be helping me build it. But ive pretty much let him work out everything, so when he calls me back ill find out everything for you.

You not going to get 460 horses out of a 350 dude, the best you could hope for with new pistons, heads, cams and everything is about 330, your going to have to bore it out to atleast a 383 and even then you are not going to get that much out of it. Get a 350 ramjet from gm and supercharge it, less expensive and you'll hit about 480hp

------------------
91 RS, 305 TBI
-Jet Chip 2
-160 degree thermostat
-Spintech Exhaust
-Ram Air (custom)
- K&N airfilter
Future Mods:
-350 Ram Jet engine
-T56 tranny
-3.9.6 Possi Rearend.

I just got my 355 from the machine shop 340 hp with the cam that is in it 10.5-1 compression and all. No emmision controls on the engine. With the other cam it was 390 hp but a very lumpy idel due to vacume. It is possible to get over 400 hp in my opinion but the question is how strretable is it???

My zz430 clone makes a underated 430 horses. The cam ( Hot cam) is only 218I. I cannot tell you how it is to drive because its about a week from being on the road. Everyone I talked to that has a 430 said the motor was fully streetable and could stand a little more cam.

Edelbrock (and I believe Holley) offer packages that make 425 horsepower from a flat-top piston 350, using their aluminum heads, cam, intake and carb.

You can get 500 hp out of a 350 rather easily, without power-adders but the question then becomes-"How streetable does it have to be?"-Emmissions? Daily driver?, etc.

283s were running in the 10s in the early to mid 1970s at the strips in class racing with fairly heavy shoe-box Chevys. Guys I knew would leave the line at 9,000 to 10,000 rpm. Took some power (not to mention *****) to do that. However, that set-up would be an absolute dog on the street.

Cubic inches is not necessarily what determines big horsepower. Cubic dollars does.
