Camaro vs. Dakota RT

Okay, I have 2 friends, one with a 99 Dakota RT, one with a 91 5.7 Z28. They are both arguing over who would win in a race. they are both stock and the only reason they havent raced yet is because the camaro is currently in need of a new tranny. Im thinkin camaro here......any other opinions?.

the camaro. I've seen the R/T's run 15's stock (5.9) and if your friends maro is up to par it should be in the 14's.

You beat him with a 305?? Wow....think I could take him? We've never even considered lining it up.

yea man you should be able to beat him the RT is a fast truck key word truck but when it comes down to it they arent fast vehicles unless modified then you better stand back cause a modded 360 will move pretty damn good.TINFY

Actually, Dakotas are hindered by their barrel-like intake, much like the stock TPI setup, but much worse. This intake limits the engines powerband to about 4000 RPM. In one of my HR/CHP/CC magazines, there is an article on adding performance to the Dakota. Baseline RWHP was only 191 (for a 360, remember) and after they added a chip, cold air, headers, full catback system, and a cam swap, they only gained 35 hp (over $1500 in mods). no wonder they call it the Dog-kota.

Actually, stock RTS can be high 14s/very low 15s stock. It would actually be prety close, i've tangled with a few 5.slows and 90% of the time came out on top. As for the Dogkota artical, we RT owners have seen it and found it extremely hilarious and barelt worthy of wiping our asses with. Most dyno in the 210-225 HP range and actually make close the 345 torque rating at the rear wheels. I find itfunny they put the RT down for running a 14.85, and yet they had to SUPERCHARGE a new Silverado to get 15.1 and just gleemed about it, ho hypocritical..... Sorry about ranting, but I've just met up with too many people that thought the RT was a DogKota, just to end up hightailing it home with their tails between their legs.

Yeah, but ya better watch out for that Silverado SS if it comes out......6.0 Litre puttin out 395 hp and 409 lbs of tourque.
Check it out here: http://www.454ss.com/1999SS.htm

Another thing to consider with the RT is the fact that the extended cab ones are much slower then the regular cab.

hey vortec read his sig he has an RT and i bet he has had it in the 14s. but none the less they are still fast TRUCKS in stock form.

hey T-bird one thing i always find funny is all the guys that right into the mags after a comparison test and complain about the dakota having an unfair advantge because dodge has the b@lls to offer the truck with a v8. unlike chevy who knows damn well that an LS1 will fit but they dont want to put it in the truck for whatever reason.TINFY
