Thats incredible and the level of development that goes into those heads/cams/motor combos represents some of the peak in automotive performance design.

I slapped some shelf 195cc heads and a mild cam together on a mild 400" bottom end and threw 15psi at it and it ran mid high 9's. Nothing hard about it but then again its not that impressive. Anyone can do it. Its not like i'm trying to extract everrry little hp possible from it, like trying to optimize a prostock n/a motor but with boost in mind. If you did that, then yes, I can see power adders being another variable but for the budget racer you can go really fast for little effort on a power adder motor
Often times the intake/exhaust ports on n/a motors will be different than on nitrous specific or boost specific builds...mainly heat is an issue with power adders so you do alittle different materials and such but there are other tricks you can employ that you dont see on n/a builds. Each way has its own unique challenges I guess.
you said it was easy to slap a turbo on there, but thats the same as slapping an n/a combination together. you can go as far as you want with either combination, but there is more variables with a power adder. pro stock engines are wicked, but there is also some wicked promod setups using a power adder.
i see what your saying about it being easier to go fast on a budget, though. that is right for sure. seems like everyone on a budget would be running some kinda nitrous kit or something but instead they decide to build a 434 with lots of expensive parts and go slower than somebodys stock ls motor with a cam and a plate kit. but they always say the ls guy is cheating cuz he has noss. lol

Yes,

Here's one testing on radials. If I remember that was 1.4x 60ft that pass. I am usually in the 1.20-1.25 area on radials.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARnSlD8akB0

BTW, I pick my kids up at school with it on occasion and it's not a block away either.

didn't you recently do a 25.x to this car?

gary, please take a note at the membership dates and post counts on the members you're blatently belittling. in most cases, these mean nothing, but in TGO's case (were non-tech bs gets deleted) it's actually saying something. some of us have been on here for 10+ years and have done everything we know to better the boards. what have you done, other than start fights with your pompous attitude?

oh gary, one more thing. that 8.09 pass that 1BADRZ28 posted was at 3200+ pounds i'm sure. how fast have you been that heavy?

Not a single dyno sheet in this thread.

Personally, I've never had anything I built or owned on a dyno. Using the typical internet ET/MPH to HP calculators, the 396 came pretty close to that with the 100 shot of nitrous. Stock steel .010-under crank, stock rods & rod bolts, TRW (remember them?) forged pistons, Clevite (remember them?) bearings, Melling HV oil pump. Didn't keep accurate run records (was also street driven), but probably put a couple thousand passes on it between 1997 and 2010 (only a dozen or so with the 100 shot).

392whp thru the auto on a very hot summer day, 10th pull in an hour heat soaked motor, 205 deg coolant Thats before the 150 shot.

That turbo setup made 690whp

Can I explain guys. When I first started racing I had old timers tell their stories of back in the day and I swore I would never let my mind get there. But in the same hand I also swore I would pay back to all those guys who taught me.I am in a stage in my life now I honestly want to help anyone who will accept it.I think I have been extremely lucky with how and what I have been able to accomplish.

That pretty much honestly sums it up.

Re: Horsepower

Well some of the fondest memories I have is street and heavy bracket racing. Not even as fast as some here are going. So for the love of the sport and a guy who is just starting out,I think I have alot to offer. Also our involvement in the racing industry building engines for people/buying&selling parts I hope I can help.

I know there are vultures in the business taking advantages of buyers that when I am critical of some brand names I am trying to tell buyers beware. It is a arrow in my heart when I hear of a guy getting hurt with his project because he got screwed.

Re: Horsepower

Hey, I'm fully licensed and run a non-full chassis/"small" tire door car, can I get in on this side race deal? - little conventional headed motor with a couple stages, I'd take a little 7.90 big tire rail action heads-up.
