my car as she sits....
Well someone asked a couple weeks ago, here's how my car sits right now. getting ready for some silver paint and the suspension to go in, fuel cell is moving under the hood as well. when i find pictures of it before i'll post them up too.
the car ran consistent 8.32-8.35 at around 81-82 mph before i tore it down. general rundown of the setup:
1997ish vortec 350 pull out, never lifted a valvecover on it
edelbrock performer intake
edelbrock 600cfm carb
hedman longtubes
th350 with a shift kit and JEGS 3500 stall converter
4th gen rear with a set of richmond 4.10's
v6 springs all the way around, lakewood 90/10's out front and some worn out stockers out back. had a JEG's 8 point roll bar, i really wish that it wasn't put in so low, i would just add the front bars to make it a 10 point and add a window net, but it'll be coming all the way out for a cromolly option.
the car has been sitting pretty dormant for the past year, so its dirty and become a bit of a catch all....but new parts are here and coming so the new general rundown:
PA Racing k member and a arms
keeping the lakewoods for now
AFCO double adjustable rears
Quick Performance 9"
Burkhart Chassis Torque arm, panhard bar, and lower control arms
keeping the th350 till it lets go, unless i get a th400 to put together for it
lots of weight loss, going to be cutting a lot of stuff out, going with a pin on hood, cutting the t top well out, minitubs, the typical racecar stuff
putting together a 383 slowly for it as well

Let me know how you like the QP rear, I have been considering one, just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Re: my car as she sits....
i would definitely recommend them, everything is jig built and checked out before they leave the door, and all the f-body ones come with a drain and fill in the housing so you don't have to take the torque arm mount off to change fluid.
if you have any questions let me know, i actually work out there now

Re: my car as she sits....
Actually, I do have a question. The "tabs" for the TA mount.....what are they made out of 1/8"?
And at the bottom of one of their pages it looks like they have done one with some kind of triangulation? Is that their new design?

Re: my car as she sits....
that triangulated housing would be what they refer to as a "fab" housing. they're stronger than the stock housings that they use.
i think that the tabs are 3/16, i can't remember off the top of my head, but we haven't had any problems with them until guys go over 1000hp. if you ask they should be able to box the mounts in which would strengthen them up a lot.
also with bmr/spohn/umi LCARBs, they will require modification to work on the quick housings. you should be able to get adjustable lower mounts built with the housing when you order though

Re: my car as she sits....
Yeah, I talked to someone there last week, and they said they were waiting to get their LCARB's in.
I couldn't find anything on their site about the fab housing, any idea on $$ difference.
Don't think I will have to worry about 1000 HP .....

i'm not sure what the difference in $$$$ is but i don't think its too bad, they come standard with billet ends too which is a plus.
you'll have to talk to the sales guys on the pricing info for sure.

cool!
Well, when the shortened 1" on each side, 35spl star flanged, with LCARB's gets ready to go out the door you know what it will be going under!

wooooooo lol.
if anyone knows where a set of 6" h beam rods are for a reasonable amount, let me know. need a set for this 383. going to be doing around 11.5-12:1, vortec heads that are lightly worked, and as much nitrous as the thing will hold. really hoping for mid/low 6's in the eighth with this setup, and with all the weight loss and fiberglass/lexan going in i'm hoping to raceweight around 2900-2950 at the top end

Re: my car as she sits....
fyi.....car weighed 2870 with iron headed sbc when the pic in sig was taken. That is with my 170# in the car of course. These cars take a little time to lighten up, but to me its worth it.

Re: my car as she sits....
it's really nice, i'm going to use some moroso solid mounts on it for now as well, there's a decent possibility of a big block in the next few years so i'm not ready to motor plate it yet.
i actually have one pic of it, i don't have any of it installed or any closer to it though

Re: my car as she sits....
very nice. if you can take more pictures when you get a chance, that'd be awesome. i was looking at their website and i'm a bit impressed with how inexpensive they are, and with people giving them good reviews, makes me want to pull the trigger when it's time. i mean, $450 for a 'moly k-member with ls1 mounts is pretty good. need to look into getting some coil overs soon too i guess.

Re: my car as she sits....
this one is built for stock springs, but i would recommend going ahead and putting coil overs on when you do the k member, it'll all be apart anyway and you'll probably want to do it in the long run anyway
i got a deal i couldn't refuse on this stuff, it is mild steel but it still feels lighter than the stock stuff

This is what I had to do to get the Trak Pak to fit on the QP mount (I checked it on the stock rear as well, and would have had to have cut it in the same fashion):
View from the top:
Both upper and lower viewed from the top:
The Jester TA also had the bolt holes set out quite a bit away from the arm, moving the arm very close to the side of the tunnel. Had it not already been "modified" in the Trak Pak failure, I probably would have had to bang away at the tunnel. I may take it back down and see about mounting it closer - there's plenty of room to get closer to the driveshaft and away from the tunnel (just have to find a big drill bit to redrill the holes).

Re: my car as she sits....
actually my interference problem is at the front of the mount, i'm going to have to modify the QP housing mount
here's what it all looks like on the floor (cell phone pic), gotta put some control arm relocation brackets on it, get some clevis tabs to put the AFCO 3870R shocks on, and possibly add some spring adjusters
I'll take pictures while modifying the torque arm mount to get the brackets to fit together

Are you going to use LCA-RB's? In the stock hole, my LCA's were pointing downward.

Yeah I'll be adding those on. I have to make a list of things to order to get the chassis going. Even with the stock rear end the control arms run the wrong way. I also will be calling trz about their spring adjuster setup for g bodies and may adapt it over

I'm not totally sure on that yet. One if my friends has a weiand intake with a pro shot fogger on that is tempting. The cost mayend up fairly close between the 2. Either way it'll be hard to lose IMO. I've always wanted to actually play with something that's efi so this may be where I do it.
