best hard radial
i'm looking to run this local street tire challenge class a little this summer. the requirements are to run a hard radial tire, have tags/insurance, and drive the car in to the track (no trailers). i'm really only wanting to make one or two events with my car, then put my little brother's car in the class for the rest of the season. basically, the class is filled with a bunch of mid 13 second imports, but there's money involved, and i'd like to take their lunch money.
do you guys have any suggestions? at the moment, the only wheels i have are a set of 16" iroc wheels, though, i'll see if i can scrounge up a set of 15" wheels if need be. so far, i've found a bfg g-force sport with a tread rating 340AA, and they're not too crazy expensive in a 255/50/16 size at just $118/ea
thoughts?

I had some futuras on my street car. Hooked great for a street tire, but i was only in the mid 13s. I don't think they would work for your car. I don't know how fast your brothers car is. I was running the 295 50 15s.

They should work for your bothers car then. Your car would just blow them away. Also when they start to get hard may as well buy a new set.

They will fit on factory 16x8s, and i have used them myself, but i am unsure of the compound, i jst remember they were not soft at all and lasted me forever, but search tirerack.com for the 295/50/16 and see what you think Matt. Plenty of contact patch and i think it might be your ticket.

The trick to racing on a regular radial is to tach it up against the converter then you have to learn what your combo likes as to how fast to put your foot to the floor. I had my 80z28 running 11.8 @ 119 mph in the 1/4 on 235/60/15 firestone Firehawk SS buy learning the finess of the launch.

Re: best hard radial
thanks for all the tips guys! i may have a line on someone who can get me a deal on some futura gls supersports in the 275/60/15 size for my car. i think for jack's car we're going to run a 255/50/16. i have run the 295/50/16 on my car in the past:
they were a set of bfg radial t/a's....the 305 ate them for lunch they were so hard.

Re: best hard radial
i've heard good things about the tiger paws, guys going into the 6's in the 1/8th mile
bet your car would still be able to go mid 11's or quicker even on the hard tires

Re: best hard radial
you wouldn't be the first one to do that........some guys would actually do that for the hard radial heads up stuff.
can't wait to see how this goes, i wish there was something similar close to me

Re: best hard radial
Futuras are killer tires, I have some 245 or 255/50 16's on my old formula that I've run really low 1.7's/high 1.6's on. I've also run similar times on old (like 18y/o at the time) eagle zr gatorbacks (16's) and ST's (15's), but the old GT's are worthless. The eagles need some hard burnouts to make them work, the futuras don't need as much of a burnout. on factory 16x8's or 15x7's I ran fastest with all of these tires somewhere in the 28-32psi range.
Newer firestone wide ovals look promising but i haven't run enough passes on them to have any useful numbers, I've run a best of 1.81 on some of these but the car was slow and I could dead hook on them

Ok thanks. I like how it sits and looks man. Looks real tough. I have the 16" iroc wheels for my 84 z28. Its a street/ strip car and I'm searching for tires and sizes and what not. Yours is lowered correct?

Re: best hard radial
Checking out of that tire size and came across these:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....=yes&tab=Specs
A 28" tall drag radial looks to be very interesting for what I hope to do this year.
These too.

While I've always known about them, I've never seen them on a 3rd gen with IROC rims.
Interesting.
