new PB tonight!

what an outing. no video footage this time, but got a chance to test the new HVH super sucker. looks like it was worth about a tenth on my combo

60- 1.536
330- 4.432
1/8- 6.866 @ 100.76
1000- 8.978
1/4- 10.765 @ 126.34

was starting to get slippery and i almost tagged the wall so we came home.

oh, and check out the new sticker i got today, just in time for tonight

Re: new PB tonight!

Congrats man, they seem to work for the Vic Jr, but not to much on the super vic, cannot remember which intake you have, but picking up 26 MPH on the big in is great. Hope i will be so lucky with a head swap. My last pass last Friday was ugly as well, so that was when i loaded up. Think the street cars screw it up.

Re: new PB tonight!

Wow, your time slip is looking a lot like mine. And your race weight is way more than mine was (probably by 200-300 lbs with a 400 and a 9 inch). That motor is probably making way over 500 horse!

Sticker looks good. Better than mine actually because the car is white.

Re: new PB tonight!

Sooo. It's a 6.0 with a cam, headers, Vic Jr, and carb? Is there anything else for it to make that HP?

What RPM are you leaving off the brake? I Think there's a .50 in it if I can squeeze anything else out of the converter.

Re: new PB tonight!

it's been 1.50 in the passed, and the first pass off the trailer last night was a 1.51...just a bit inconsistent with the marginal track prep last night.

4000 rpm off the tbrake, and the last pass (the 10.76 pass) was off the footbrake as i've been having some issues with the tbrake solenoid. i launched it at ~3200 on the footbrake.

the motor is .030" over, 11.5:1 SCR, has PRC stage 2.5 ls6 heads, and then the afformentioned pieces that you listed. vic jr with a 2" hvh super sucker under a hodge podge 750cfm carb that we put together using spare parts....it needs a real carb on it. one could probably duplicate similiar numbers with a flycut stock piston with a milled cylinder head and some arp rod bolts...but this motor needed to be gone through when i got it, so i went ahead and put some better pistons and rods in it.

Congrats Matt! - Check around on line and see if you can find that sealed brake solenoid I mentioned before. I may have one in the garage, I'll check sometime this week.

That's moving man. I'm glad your set up is coming together nicely. I was going to go to the track Friday, but I thought it was going to rain so I stayed home. I'm waiting on my new hood anyway.

Re: new PB tonight!

it's my opinion that they make some of the best stuff on the market for the price range. there is less quality control issues than other companies, and the guys at moser really know their stuff and are super helpful.

Re: new PB tonight!

Yeah I wanted to go just to hang out and have a really good time at the track, but with no hood on the car right now I didn't think it would have been a good Idea with the threat of rained on the way. My hood should be in next week sometime. By the way I managed to pick up an 87' Hard top Berlinetta from AL for free with title in hand. The overall body lines are perfect, but it will still need some work. Needless to say It'll be at least until this summer before I start swapping any parts.

Measure the distance from the outside "washer" to the body of the noid. That piece is tied directly to the plunger section, thus the travel is the distance it moves.

I've got Moser 35 spline race axles in the camaro, along with their corresponding spool. - They've treated me well, but I'm not sure how much more the 12-bolt can take, even fully prepped like mine.

I know they can go 7s in the quarter, dont know howmuch mre you can ask from one, LOL.

Matt, how much of the yoke in your car went into the trans? got a used DS from a guy off tech and it came from a 4th gen, 2 and some change longer than stock just as i measured i would need and the marks on the yoke i have are EXACTLY where mine went when installed as well but it seems to only have 2.5 inches into the tail shaft, i am sure it will be fine but i was wondering if yours went 3 to 3.5 into your TH400?

Re: new PB tonight!

proper driveshaft length at ride height with suspension fully loaded is yoke all the way into the trans and then pull it out 1", and that is setup length. If yours is off then it needs to be lengthened/shortened.

Re: new PB tonight!

Mine is around 2.5" inside the trans and just slightly over 1" out; 3.5" moly shaft.

I am going 7's in the 1/4 @ 3000lbs, lol. The blown combo should be high 6's, though I won't likely ever run it out the back. - I'm not worried about breaking it running out the back, but that hit off the transbrake is violent to say the least. So far so good, but when the chassis cert is up in a couple years and I go after re-doing what I didn't the first go-round it will likely get a Strange D60 w/ 40-spline rifle drilled's.

i was thinking an s60 with floaters and 40 spline axles, but you beat me to it, lol.

i'm going to put the car in the air tomorrow morning and start doing some diagnosis on the solenoid. i have to pull the exhaust/pass. side header off in order to pull the solenoid off, so i'm hoping it's just short somewhere, lol

Re: new PB tonight!

Ok, so 2.5 in the tail housing is ok, my 89 is like that because the engine and trans is straight up and making the whole setup sit 1 inch further foreword than stock.

I should go to a floater, but not sure I can swing it. All things said and done I'd have almost $10k tied up in the rear alone. - Strange has their two-piece 40-spline gun-drilled axles, which are considerably stronger than typical forged one-piece axles. They were in developement for pro stock and pro-mod when NHRA mandated the floaters, thus they don't get much attention. Since we don't run 1/4 with the blown combo I'm sure they'll be plenty for what we need.

Get it in the air and bust out the test light or multi-meter. Shouldn't take long to diagnose.

Re: new PB tonight!

haha, true story. the solenoid is two pieces and has a plunger that goes down the middle of both. the two pieces are bolted together with a #8 stud and nut. the two nuts had backed off, and i lost one alltogether. of course, bte has thier own nut foundry or something, and had used a #8-32 nut that had a 1/4" outer diameter, and the ones i could find had some oddball 11/32 outer diameter, so i had to drill the body of the 'noid out a bit to get the nuts to fit in there, then the tolerances between the sidewall of the body and the new nuts were too tight and i couldn't get any tools in there, lol. (going larger to allow a socket to get in there was not possible, i risked making stuff too thing) so i got the nuts as tight as i could, then mushroomed the ends of the studs so they couldn't back off. not as orthodoxed of a fix as i'd like, but it's semi-permanent. at this point, if i have another failure, i'll be purchasing a new 'noid, lol.

My 6.0 has gone 7.1 with the 6 speed, but i dont know how heavy your car is and how much your cam will push so i can just let you compare to mine, 3450 with me in it, 4.30 gears launching at 6000. 7.1 @ 97 in the 1/8th on a 1.5 60 foot. 26x11.5x16 tire.

I still have stock 317s milled .030 so you will be making more power than me if you had the same cam.
