Re: 86 TA project

Well, new sensor is in and she runs pretty good, tried the carb off the 89 and it was not that great as it is not tuned for the smaller cam and smaller cubes, so i will be trying to get the other proform dialed in. Starts ok with it but i need the initial hit to be better. Top end pulls damn good for a 5.3:

BTW, if you use the 6012 box and hook the MSD harness up with not using the GM harness extension that comes on the engine you have to swap the wires on the GM harness, the outer two wires.

Re: 86 TA project

Got it running better, but it is loading up when RPM drops int he shifts, so i need to see if the timing needs to go up, but i am sure the people in the neighborhood are getting tired of me romping the back roads open headers.

Re: 86 TA project

Well, i like the way the exhaust sounds, it is just a single bullet, remids me of the formula 1 cars int eh RPM. Needs more RPM because 6500 is not enough. Even feels faster with the exhaust on it.

Yep, 3 inch off the headers to a 3 inch Y and through the bullet and dumped at the axle.

Re: 86 TA project

Well HELL YEA, i scored a stock VS 750 at the swap meet, rebuilt it for 40$, jetted it as i deemed fit and threw it on, no bog, no breaking up(till it got hot) and it couldnt be better with the exception that the 3000 converter and 3.23 gear still sucks out of the hold, but i am truly a happy camper, SWAP MEET FOR THE WIN!

double pumper is worth a good amount of power over them though

Maybe on the dyno, but I've always run faster with a VS with an automatic.

Re: 86 TA project

no way can you run faster with something that doesn't open the rears 100% and you can't do jetting changes to the rear in a box stock holley since it's a metering plate not metering block. I'd put a double pumper against it any day of the week.

Re: 86 TA project

If i feel like rebuilding the other 750 Pro Form, i will, then i will swap it back out, but for now, this VS still has a choke horn and the works, but i am just glad to drive it issue free.

Man, when i have a couple Gs around to buy the stuff, will be a while unfortunately. But i just wan to get the gear/converter straight, then if i get a deal on another 12 bolt or 9 inch, then the turbo stuff will be on hold longer, the stock 10 is not going to live with the nitrous or a turbo on this car.

I hear ya on that. I recently lucked out big time because my brother bought a 91 TA that someone had swapped a Dana 44 with 3.55 gearing into. He wanted 4.10's so I gave him my fresh 10 bolt plus some cash and got the Dana 44 so I should be pretty good now as far as having a relatively bulletproof drivetrain. I'm pretty sure that orr's twin turbo car is still on the 10 bolt though and going strong lol, so you never know.

Re: 86 TA project

Sold the Dana 44 I used to have to cover some of the cost of the 12 bolt, lol. They are pretty stout and more than a 7.5 ever could be, and you get to say you still have a 10 bolt! Lol

I use a metering block on all my VS carbs and spend alot of time tuning the rate they open. So far I have tried my VS carb against an 850 holley dbl, a barry grant 850 speed deemon and an HP 950 holley. The HP950 was damn near the same, but I was still faster with my 870 street avenger. I also was quite abit faster with my old 350 with a 3310 than a 650 dbl pumper. I also run a very heavy car with an automatic vs light weight and a manual.
