Timeslip help

I am wanting some educated, and seasoned guys to take a look at this slip, from what I am seeing it appears the car is falling flat on the 1-2 shift and never fully recovers, ideas?

Re: Timeslip help

To me, it looks like your MPH has you where your rime should be, get the 60 down and it will drop but with the power it looks like you may be making you dont have much left. The top end however on the back half seems to be down a bit, 21 MPH gain, tells me that you are just not making as much power up top to keep it hauling. Nothing big but somewhere in the engine it is not charging as hard as it should.

Re: Timeslip help

Not sure, but i think the 416 heads (1.94 valve, home ported) are my biggest hold back now. Looking at a set of 210 AFR's which are a little too much for the current setup. But, I know these heads will allow plenty of room for growth, ie. 383 and a good sized roller cam.

Current setup is 350 .060 over, bone stock bottom end out of an old 78 full size truck, 60103 Voodoo cam, LT's (Hedman) and Eddy air gap intake.

Re: Timeslip help

You would be surprised what a set of new 195 AFRs will do, the move as much air as some bigger runner heads because of the velocity instead of port size alone. Would still work on a 383 im sure.

Re: Timeslip help

if you do the heads make sure to ditch that cam and step it up as well. That is a pretty tiny cam, I had something a little bigger in my old 305 engine. Also your slips look about right for that combo, I think it's running out of steam up top from the heads and cam, so it not carrying that much mph on the back half seems about right. Have you played with timing and jetting to see if it picks up on the back half at all?

Re: Timeslip help

Sorry I don't have time to do the breakdown myself but break the timeslips into sections. How long did it take to go the first 60' is easy since that's on the timeslip. Now how long did it take to go from 60' to 330? 330 to 660 etc. Once you break the run down into sections, you can see where you gain or lose time. It can give you a better idea what's happening while going down the track.

You can have identical ET's but one has a better 60' time. By breaking down the run, you may find you lost that time in another section of the track. Now you need to figure out what happened to lose time in that section. It could be any number of reasons but knowing where it happens helps.

Re: Timeslip help

you're running the second half of the track a little slower than the first 1/8 seems to indicate you should (about 2/10 of a second), but what stands out to me is your relatively low mph as compared to your et. To me it suggests that your engine is falling flat up top, often you see this kind of thing in a carburated car that is running out of fuel at the top of it's rpm range. It's usually not an airflow problem unless you have too much gear/too little tire and just don't have the rpm to keep going.

Re: Timeslip help

for what it is worth, I went to your cardomain sight and noticed thatb you claim your car weighs 2900lbs. with you in it. That is pretty lite and would explain why the car excellerates so quickly. So I would say like the rest that you are just flat out running out of engine. A car that light will ET real good with less engine. So you just be happy with what you have and get that 383 built . When that is installed you can start the dialing in of the car to the new engine. It seems you are going in the right direction. You have established a lite car with a little engine that runs real good for what it is.

good Luck!
