NASA MIDWEST - GATEWAY CMC

This weekend the Midwest CMC season got off to a roaring start. Drivers, crews, families and fans converged at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, IL for Round 1 of the 2010 Midwest Regional CMC Championship. 5 CMC2 cars were in attendance for this event.

GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY SUMMARY
3 CMC2 races towards the NASA Midwest championship points
5 CMC2 cars, one winner for the weekend Steve Michael.
2 New licensed CMC2 drivers; Robert Salus and Steve Michael
3 more CMC2 drivers coming through the HPDE program were in attendance. 2 of them have goals to join us by the end of the year.
Steve Michael set the Gateway track record for CMC2 with a 1:11.293 on Sunday.
Saturday Qualifying;
Steve Michael got the pole, with Kent Owens second, Bob Denton third, Bryan White fourth, and Robert Salus fifth.

Saturday Race;
Saturday's race was a flying start with a mixed grid. Steve, Bob and Kent spent the whole race duking it out. Bryan's engine let go after 6 laps. Saturday's finishing order Steve M 1st, Bob D 2nd, Kent O in third, Robert Salus in fourth, and Bryan White in fifth.

Sunday's Qualifying
Steve Michael got the pole again, with Bob Denton second, Kent Owens in third, and Robert Salus in fourth.

Sunday's Race One
Sunday's races were standing starts with the grid arranged so the rookies were in the back. Bob Denton and Kent Owens in the front row and Steve Michael and Robert Salus in the second row. Bob Denton ended up getting the jump on the start, with Kent Owens in second, Steve Michael in third and Robert Salus in fourth. Bob held the lead for a couple laps until missing a fifth gear shift coming off of the banking and Kent and Steve both were able to take advantage of the situation. Unfortunately at the 3/4 mark of the race Kent had a flat tire and had to come in. Steve Michael won, with Bob Denton in second place, Robert Salus in third and Kent Owens in fourth.

Sunday's Race Two
Race two was also a standing start with the same grid order, with Bryan White driving Robert Salus' number 89 car. Bob Denton again got the jump on the start with Steve M close behind which led them to battle it out for most of the race. Meanwhile Kent and Bryan were having a race of their own for third and fourth. Finishing order was Steve Michael with the win, Bob Denton in second place, Kent Owens in third, and Bryan White in fourth.

The next Race is at Putnam Park (Crossover between NASA Midwest and Great Lakes) in Mount Meridian, IN May 14-16 2010. Several CMC people are planning to do the enduro on Friday afternoon.
