i was just wondering who i can look forward to meeting at the friday night drags at atlanta motor speedway. the first race of the season is april 30th. there is also a car show. i'd like to see some 3rd gens in there. who's going?

I'll be there a lot with my 92 rs camaro, wont be racing since i don't get my liscence till october due to losing my birth certificate, haha i'm already 16 though. my dad will probably race it some and we'll just be hanging out, look forward to seeing you.

 

ok. this friday night. gates open at 6pm. only a slight chance of rain. hopefully i'll have my 84 ready. who wants to race me?

 

Ha! Our track opens this Friday night for the street crowd. With the cold wet weather all this week, I doubt it's going to happen. I won't see good track conditions for my car until early June even though we have our first race at the end of May.

 

our tracks stay open year round down here provided it's not 30 degrees (that's cold down here). the Atlanta motor speedway gets the biggest crowd for some reason. i think they've counted 5000+ fans.

 

We can still get snow near the end of May and last year the season ended right at the end of September because of cold, freezing weather. Short season means you don't hurt as many parts but it sucks when I need to replace my belts every 2 years and they're still in new condition.

 

I was there friday and will be back. As far as third gens I'm pretty easy to pick out , the blue one running sportsman

i raced you a couple years ago. you won since my naturally aspirated 355 doesn't belong in that class. im gonna stay with domestic this year and see what happens

 

lol sportsman is insane, infact most classes there are! now we have nitrous pro mods running super pro, mixed with some junk that shouldnt be near a track lol that is if you call AMS a track. it is pretty cheap , a whole lot of fun and its pretty cool to see the crowd cheer for a car (even better when its you they cheer for , they like wheelies)

 

what do you have to run to be competitive in the classes there?

 

to be competitive in domestic (lowest V8 class) a low 7 1/8 is good. domestic advance, about a 6.0-6.50, sportsman 5.50-5.99. some of the fastest cars are probably capable of very low 4s. there are no timing devices so most of these times i found using a stop watch.

Been ok, just real busy. Trailer got stolen Again so I have to use a loaner lol but when his car is done then I'm stuck lol

 

ok. my 84 needs a new cam so i can't take it, but i am willing to take my 280ZXT. i guess i'll be running in tuner or something??? anyway...lame... but fun i guess. i wonder how far i can get with a 10 sec 1/8? see you guys tonight!!

 

Well I made it to the final round, and seem to have used up another mustang
so much junk came out of his engine I just about had to stop... Lol

yeah i saw you. looks like you're running low 5s. i was out in the first round as usual. thats gonna change when i swap engines in my Z28.

 

hey guys, i heard about friday nite drags. went to watch one time last season. i hope to bring my car out a couple of times this season. have any of you guys heard about the big grudge race this saturday in Lagrange GA.(SMALL 1/8 MILE track) i'll be there with my 83 camaro. 15$ to test & tune, 50$ to enter into a class. $1500 to winner of 5.0 class, $1000 to 6.0 and 7.0 winners. a local snellville racer is putting on the event. should be a big turn out. maybe i'll see you guys there?

 

well, we took the car down to Lagrange last saturday. there were lots of cars there. there was two very wicked thirdgen camaros and a mild one(mine) there. the wicked ones were turning numbers like 5.2 @ 119mph. one even went a 4.99 in the 8th mile. my car developed some issues early on and we only made 3 passes, each one slower than the one before. the culprit was a locked up caliper on the driver front. on the last of the three passes, the car dragged the tire the full length of the track before it released. so we just put it back on the trailer and watched everyone else run for the rest of the day. I'm going to change out all of the braking hardware on both sides before we take it out again. hope to get a new set of slicks before we run again too

 

get that thing fixed and bring it out to AMS. I think the next race is june 11. whatever you do dont bring the car with slicks or you'll have to race Rich.
