WOOHOO! she won me some money!

The US Street Nationals this past weekend; second race with the car, she went 2 rounds and won me my entry fee back. I was happy as hell for being 100+ci under most and a single stage(plate only) nitrous vs 2-3 fogger cars with 600+ci.

5.35 @ 128. We switched to the ol' faithful Rupert methanol dominator after qualifying Friday eve, but left the nitrous enrichment on the 118 fuel. I pulled a full scale 4-link re-set Friday night, moved my IC forward almost another 6" plus down 1"; still road the bars all of first and most of second, 1.16 60' with the rears! It's amazing what roughly 600hp worth of spray will do right off the trans brake. lol

Nipped a couple plugs in the first eliminator and might have wounded a headed gasket in the second round though. oh well, such is racing, with as little money as I have in this combo, it doesn't owe me anything.

Re: WOOHOO! she won me some money!

Yeah, she was leaving dirty. We never did get the front end down before 100'. Rob posted pics of me with the back splattered Friday eve, re-setting the 4-link. I moved the IC forward another 6" and down 1", plus brought my AS down from 103% to around 91%; thing still walked all of low and part of second on the wheenie bars.

1.18 - 1.16 all weekend on the rear wheels! That speedtech plate hits hard.

Not a win, just went to 2nd round and lost to Jimmy Hall, the eventualy event winner.

Wheel stands are freakin' t**s!! How much time can you take off the ET by keeping the front down at WFO??

Other than wheel spin, what does 60 foot tell you when you're hookin'?

You can take an enormus amount of time off the ET by staying grounded, .0X which is huge because there is no lost power being used to lift the stupid car off the ground.

then there's the affects it has on R/T's, jerking the tires has a terrible adverse effect since the beam sees your car leaving differently, so it's hard to dial in a rock solid staging practice since it's impossible to have it reproduce over a 10-14hr day of racing.

60's tell you the tires are still working, tell you tire psi is correct by showing consistency, allows you to tune since each and every point on the track tells a story, and being able to read the same story over and over and over tell you if something is right/wrong with the set up.

Wheelies are fun for that ONE picture, they're good for impressing buddies that do not race/spectators that want to see that sort of thing, but overall they're not an event a racer ever wants to be a consistant player....I cant think of one race (bracket style) that i've ever seen a wheelie car consistantly winning unless they know how to dupe the numbers and out stratagize the guy/gal in the other lane....keeping the car grounded makes the driving game much simpler.

Re: WOOHOO! she won me some money!

I don't mind it hiking the tires 1-2', but the carrying them 100+ ft out is definitely hurting my ET's. A lot of air being pushed and a lot of rolling resistace being placed on the rear tires, plus the friction of when the fronts finally do come down(them not turning on a car that's already at 100+ mph).

With as low as I have this car, anything over about 12" is going to go on up and with the amount of power I'm hitting it with it's going to ride out a ways if it gets up.

I'm re-working the suspension again, and will probably go to a longer set of wheenie bars. All in due time, right now the motor and trans will be coming up to be checked out, and I need to focus on getting the other car done/sold before spending more on mine.

Re: WOOHOO! she won me some money!

So I watched Pass Time last night ( rerun I haven't seen all of b4 ) and there was a 3rd gen Camaro with a 598 (?). Did a hellacious bumper stand & broke when it came down!!

I can see how RT is affected & it makes sense the longer the front is up, the ET will be slower. It seems kinda like pushing a broader object thru the air.

Do you guys like 4 link for "easy adjustments" or because it's a more solid frame//suspension? Both apply?

Shagwell--is that what I've heard called a " triangulated 4 link "?

4 links are better all the way around:
infinate (term used loosely) adjustiment for any power level, any track condition, huge resale benefits. Move AS and IC with just a few minutes of time....can take a car that stands on it's bumper, move the bars and pow, she leaves flat as a pancake with all 4 on the ground...or vice versa. Car pulls one direction or another, add/take away pre load, same goes for the way it's hitting the tires.

****'s is a standard 4 link set up with a diagonal bar for keeping the rear end housing centered...so it does'nt shift side to side through the suspension motion.

A triangulated is like the "factory 4 link" set up's you see under G bodies, A bodies where the bottom bars are parallel to the frame, but the top bars angle in where they come off the top of the rear diff and mount to the frame.

Re: WOOHOO! she won me some money!

^ IHI pretty well covered it. Mine is a typical drag race oriented 4-link; non parrallel, thus creating anti-squat(AS) to "hit" the tires. The better the 4-link, the more holes and room for adjustment. The more adjustment you have available, the better you are for getting the car to work with various set-ups and conditions.

Re: WOOHOO! she won me some money!

No problem Matt. They're really simple; I have angle iron formed up under the stock mounting lip right there and the dzus tabs simply have a short section of tubing connecting them to the angle. - With a stock head-light bracket/upper support you could easily set a small section 1/8" plate between two of the mount holes on either side and thus weld to them.

- This is all I have on PB right now, I can get some more if needed.
