Pictures from September 25

One of the photographers finally posted some pictures online. If you click on the "all sizes" at the top left of the picture, you can get a much larger version. There are some great lighting shots just as the sun was setting behind the mountains. 219 cars went through tech that night.

Re: Pictures from September 25

Is it just me or do you have more down travel in your right front than your left front?

It's not you. I run moroso trick springs. The left front spring never seems to want to stay in position. It's always rotating causing the left to sit lower than the right. I've tried everything to keep in place with no results. The limiters are adjusted equally but the left side is lower at rest so it won't extend as far when the limiters stop the extension. The only other option would be a coilover kit. so equal ride height can be obtained however I like the full travel the moroso springs offer especially when the car comes back down.

Those dusk pictures are just so cool.

You can get full travel from coil-overs, but you need to run a lighter spring than most of the kits come with. I'm running 10" 175 fronts, and they're too stiff. My 175's actually started as 14, and then got cut to 12's, then down to 10's just while setting them up. They were all I had at the time putting it together, and I just shortened them till I could get the ride height. I'm currently running 2-2.5" of downtravel. - I have a set of 12" 150's to try soon, I think somewhere around 130-150 will be right.

I don't even have adjustable front struts, just stock replacement, bottom-of-the-line Monroe sensa-tracks.

Have you ever scaled the car at each corner? I can watch mine twist sideways just adding a couple flats of pre-load in the rear bars.

Those pics are definitely killer.

Re: Pictures from September 25

Based on how much adjustment my limiters have from the at rest position to full extension, I have about 4" of downward travel. That's nice to have when the front end comes back down. The long travel of the springs will absorb much of the cars downward force before it bottoms out which it never does,

I've never 4 corner scaled my car. Some day I might just so I can do a preload on the rear springs. The rear anti roll bar does it's job and keeps the car going straight on launch. I have no preload in the 4-link bars.

Re: Pictures from September 25

I understand you on the travel; mine doesn't really come back down that hard. I've got 2-2.5" of down travel, and 1-1.5" of up travel from ride height. I want to put the car on the shorter Goodyear fronts, but I'm not spending money on something that's not broke right now.

I have always base-lined my suspension with 2 flats of negative preload on the upper right hand bar, neutral the anti-roll there. The car goes straight as a string, even when they're hanging in the breeze. - If one tire seems to bite more than the other I adjust the pre-load accordingly. I'll change it pending track conditions if I/others are having trouble with one lane turning at the hit.

Re: Pictures from September 25

Stephen, if you were to use a coil over kit, who's would you use? RaceCraft, or?, assuming you were to keep the stock strut/brake configuration.

Jp, which kit did you use for your front coilover conversion?

Re: Pictures from September 25

Mine was DIY. The threaded sleeves/nuts for the struts were an AFCO product from a stock car parts place, the towers I built on my bench with a spherical upper mount.

From what I've seen the Rcecraft kits look/perform great, as does Spohn's.
