Re: I will hit 12.9 with a bolt on L98
Yeah man. Thats all I want to do is hit high 12's. I ordered some 1.6 rocker arms. I was thinking if I get around 10-15 horses out of those it may be possible. Right now im kickin out around 250 rwh so about 310 motor. My torque numbers looked a bit high. It was hitting between 340-350 at the wheels. Kinda crazy cuz thats around 400 at the motor. Switched back and forth between the hypertech and TPIS chip and didnt notice a damn difference. HT actually made slightly better power. Strange. If I cannot hit 12's with the rockers alone im going to finally order the edge 2800 stall converter and some march pulleys. Then its on! lolz

My 89 went 13.87 with 4.10 gears, 160k mile L98, RPM air gap and 750 hollry carb conversion with full length headers. So, with other bolt ons, i am sure you are not going to have any problem. I was launching like a puss.

haha the slips are in my room and i am far too lazy right now to go look for them. i know the 8.2 is correct. my guess is the 60 was around 1.9. your right 1.3 is nuts lol

I wanna put down around 260 whp but i dont think its possible w/just bolt ons. The only things I have left are pulleys and the rockers.

I am curious about the pulleys as well. I have done some research but was lookng for some solid numbers before I move forward to buying them.

I was told by a few friends they are a waste of money until everything else is dont. I really dont buy the whole 12wrh claims. Prob more like 5 at best.

Re: I will hit 12.9 with a bolt on L98
Its a very rare thing to have a bolt-on L98 with all the traction in the world hit a high 12. Not saying impossible.....just difficult. Look up Formul8's old formula. Every bolt-on imaginable, and it was a formula so fairly light too.
Thats a lofty goal. I wish you luck.

Re: I will hit 12.9 with a bolt on L98
The pulleys work yes. Will you notice the power..prob not. All my buddys here..all mustangs but they think they have to have them. For the money they spent they could have done other things like, Cheap Headers, Anything for geting more air in/out, Finding a set of used heads anything. I mean You wont find any used AFRs for around $200-300 but something better than factory..but my budds, they are bummed that it did NOTHING for them at the track.
If you wanted to get pulleys, I spend a few dollars and get a CSR electric water pump, and the March Pulley brakets to work with the factory PS & ALT. Its less pull on the motor..more power making it to the ground and its a little less weight. It is a lot more money...but Im a firm believer in less drag more power.. Get rid of the A/C if you havent, Take that **** off the engine..less weight again..Fiberglass hoods, spoliers, Lighter wheels..thats all things to keep in mind..If you hit high 12s with out the bottle..Hold on for 11s on the bottle..

Re: I will hit 12.9 with a bolt on L98
Power wise i dont think i picked up anything. It may have been minor.
The 1.6 rockers i did gain and i noticed a big difference in air fuel ratio change which i think is because of the extra air flow, but i also swapped to accel 24lb injectors which have a different spray pattern. either way fueling changed alot and i ran my 12's that week
I went 12.95 and 12.99 at 103.8mph with my bolt on L98. That was with HSR on top.
IF your doing 8.2 with a 1.8x 60 foot, a 2800 stall and slicks will drop that atleast 2 tenths. You should EASILY have 1.7x which in itself will net 2 on the top end. thats pretty close to 12.99 as is. I would figure in cold air your 60 foot should come down almost .2 and lead to a .3-.4 tenth gain.
For what its worth, my L98 put down 254whp with all the bolt ons, Stealth ram, and running lean at 14.2 or so to 1. Richen that up, adjust timing, I had mid 260's.

Re: I will hit 12.9 with a bolt on L98
For now I am just going to do the rockers. I was thinking about ordering the jegs brand. After than I'll have it dynoed and hit the track. I really dont plan on doing much better but we'll see. May need more than just bolt ons seeing as my hp numbers are kind of weak.

Re: I will hit 12.9 with a bolt on L98
My 383 was doing mid 11s. Best of 11.47 in hot summer with abit of a traction slip. 1.55 60 foot but its capable of 1.49-1.50's and in cold air probly would have done high 11.20's at 120.

I just saw the vid for the 2010 camaro. Funny now almost 40 grand only gets you 13.0's. I am almost there and I havent spend nearly that much. Still a nice car though that could probably hit high 11's fairly easy with the right bolt ons.

Yeah kinda a bum, Stock LS1 in SS or WS6s can get you into the 12.9s with the right driver, tires..bolt ons 11s, bottle high 10s, Heads/cam combo..deep 10s..9s on bottle..LSX motors are sick. I cant decide when my engine goes to get an LS or go with a true Pontiac big block..but I have to get my done for it to ever run lol

Yea, but it's a new car remember. You're paying for more than just straight line performance. Not to mention that 13.0 is at 111 mph. Once that car gets a decent driver with traction, I can easily see it going high 12's stock.

Buy a converter! I cannot stress how much they help. I know rocker arms are cheaper, but it's not even close when comparing gains. My bet is that the rockers gain less than 10. Sticky tires + the right converter = run 12's as it sits.

Re: I will hit 12.9 with a bolt on L98
They aint so bad Hope they work good on your car. They worked well on mine but never did get to retune it properly with the new injectors since the new injectors made it lean. I think it was because of the injectors but the higher lift rocker may also contributed. Still made power even tho it was so lean.

I don't understand....are you guys saying you're bolting on pullies, HSR, headers, 1.6 rockers, some gears, and running 12's???.....stock they only run mid to high 14's...
Your saying that you went from a 245hp motor to over 300-320 horse with bolt ons?? (you need at least 300-320 horse to run 12's w/3500lbs of car) I'm not trying to say it can't be done....I just don't see it....and when I first got my car I did the same bolt ons.
I did the same thing here>>>> 1.6 rockers, HSR, MSD ignition, Headers, 3.42 gears, 2500 stall, pullies, air foil, 24lb injectors, chip, etc. I only went 14.0 @ 98-99.....the other camaros out here were running the same or slower depending on the bolt ons.
Not calling anyone liers or nothing like that....just doesn't seem correct to me.

Re: I will hit 12.9 with a bolt on L98
but your talking about little bumps in HP, 5 here, maybe 10 there.....I just don't see it...I know the torque is there, but your talking about dropping 2 seconds off a 1/4mi time with a launch. Now maybe you're right and getting a great launch does that....but the MPH is NOT affected by launch....and running 103 mph as someone said above would indicate around 310hp at the wheels.....not with bolt ons...no way. I could be wrong, but why is my 450hp car running the same as a stock w/bolt ons??
I had my motor put on a dyno after building it.....457hp @6200 rpm.....and I run 12's in my car with that motor in it (I'm at 3000ft elevation mind you, Idaho)

I've seen a L98 thirdgen run 13.1's @ 99mph after Winger4800 bought it. He was gunning for 12's. It was Formul8's old black formula. Every bolt-on under the sun, vig stall, stock 3.27 9 bolt, and slicks. His 60 foots were rediculous. Stock L98 cam though.

okay, I can see that I guess.....the 13.1 is way fast, very good launch..what is 60-foot times???....but the 99mph is right in line where my car was running when I had only bolt ons...

So I wasted thousands upon thousands of dollars building a motor....cause my goal was 12's.......I could have done it with the bolt ons.

what do your 60 ft's look like, i was running 12.8x at about 108 on a 1.85 60ft (hangover fest at cordova, it was like 15 degrees out lol) very traction limited. with traction and a higher stall that thing is gonna be bottom 12s, its just a stock vortec motor with an xr288 cam and supporting valvetrain modifications.

It took all the mods in my sig to go 12.9 at 106mph. Poor 60' times of 1.8x average though.
I've read where 1/10th in the 60' translates to about 2/10ths at the end.
And I busted my 9 bolt doing it.

man, we've got 0 suspension minus some cheapo summit 3 way rear shocks and some M/T 10.5 ET Street bias plies (about 8.5 tread width). got more cam and carb than that tho. but running shorties and a 3 inch Y pipe to a cutout.

12.99 at 103.x and 12.95 at 103.8.
12.95 was at a DA of 188 ft. Altitude at 1200 ft. Car made 254whp/315wtq
1.70-1.71 60 foot
Its all launch and good air.
NORMAL cool night summer air is 13.3's at 100-101. Air made huge difference
