whats the best all around drag slick choice
I got the bug and sectioned/hammered/sawzall my wheel wells to clear a 30 inch tire
I am looking at three choices right now for a 30 x 10.5 x 15 slick - one is a recommendation from M/T tech guy who moderates over on yellowbullet
wondering if you guys had any preferences/good experiences with any of these brands that may be running a similar car to mine in the sig below -
(power will be increased in near future (hopefully) with a 383ci & nitrous)
Hoosier 18205 - D05 compound - 30 x 10.5 x 15 slick
Goodyear D1790 - D4B compound - (stiff sidewall) 30 x 10.5 x15 slick
M/T 3062S - M5 compound (stiff sidewall) 30 x 10.5 x 15 slick

in my experience the goodyears dont last as long. ive been a die-hard hoosier guy because they have always hooked. mickeys will launch well with the stiff sidewall...great tires, but not as long of a life--IMO.

Re: whats the best all around drag slick choice
As I went up in tire sizes, I tried different brands mostly to get a specific size. I liked Hoosiers but they wore out quickly. Goodyears were OK. I just run MT now because everyone has them in stock so I don't have to special order tires. I wear out a set of tires every 2 years and my car isn't street legal.
As for size, I was able to squeeze a 29.5 x 10.5 ET Drag under the fenders with a bunch on inner fender modifications. They were mounted on 15x10 rims with 5.5" backspace.
If you do a search for inner fender modifications, you'll find lots of others talking about the same kind of modification needing to be done to stuff a big tire under the fenders. You will NOT fit a 30 x 10.5 Drag slick under the fenders without modifications.

Re: whats the best all around drag slick choice
I did do the sawzall work on the front, back and to the flares of the fenders also as well as the inside of the wheel well - it will fit - we used a 30 x 12 actually as our test tire
So its really a tossup as to choice
I have been hearing about stiff sidewall being the way to go for reaction time and repeatability - but the hard compounds on our not so well prepped tracks have not feared as well as the soft compounds in our experience with the few higher power cars we have
Its a tossup but the goodyear is the only one of the three that is stiff sidewall and a softer compound -
but I agree the hookers are the lightest in weight /and so I presume the softest of the bunch - and probably may be hooking better for me
any other thoughts out there guys

I run the M/T 29.5x10.5 stiff side wall. I've had good results out of the M/T. My 28x10.5's lasted forever, a full season and a half.
