Be careful there until you get acclimated. That back stretch is FAST if you have much power. I got the car sideways at 130ish mph back there and somehow drove out of it and didnt go off track. Fun track, just be careful back there...

wow, lots of BS in that thread about street legality...people who don't race their cars shouldn't be allowed to respond to threads about super high performance mods and our decisions to run them on the street.
great job on the car BIG_MODS...it's really turned out great. any vids of the new exhaust? should sound nasty with that spintech on there.

I'll also take a minute to explain a few more things about the car since Austin is very busy and has not been here for a bit. I'm just going to ramble on about the car in no particular order. You'll notice in the pic that Chazman posted the car was originally a T-top car. I helped swap the t-top roof for the solid roof which turned out amazingly well as you can see in the pix. Also if you look closely at the finished pic, you can see that the car has a lexan back window. We worked on that for quite a while but it literally fits the car perfectly. You could roll a marble down the roof onto the back window and it would barely bounce. The gap is tight, and the window is perfectly flush with the car. The rear decklid is a custom fabbed piece that pins to the body tub, and the rear wing is also a completely custom fabbed piece. The side windows are glass and do roll up and down like stock. The windshield is lexan but the wipers and everything still work. the interior pic is an in-progress shot, he is not planning to keep the wideband readout zip tied to his clutch and brake reservoirs. The wiring will be routed and cleaned up a little from what is shown, this pic was taken just days after he got it running. The driver's seat is actually relocated to the rear passenger's foot well, this lowers and more centrally locates the driver for safety and weight balance, and keeps his head from the roll bar. The engine is a TFS headed 350 with a single plane intake and a 4bbl throttle body running a stock SD 747 ECM, should be roughly 400hp. The trans is a Jerico 4spd directly from NASCAR. My best guess at vehicle weight would be 2900lbs.

Re: Road race thirdgen!! Pics wanted
Well the idea I gave him for exhaust hangars ended up being a dud, so I fail. He had rubber engine mounts, and the rubber hangers I suggested allow the muffler to move around too much and it hits the rocker and rattles really bad. He is installing solid engine mounts, and will be making some new bushings for the mount ears on the muffler to make sure it can't move too far and rattle on the chassis. I've heard the car over the phone a few times but it really doesn't do justice. The engine and suspension are out of the car right now for cleaning and a few upgrades. We'll get some videos of the car this spring. It would be cool if he and I could get some wheel to wheel footage of the two of us at Gingerman this summer. Yes I will get destroyed...

1meanz, sounds like an amazing build, i've kept up with it a little bit. between your and his, i'd say ya'll have the two most modded cars on the boards that are still street drivable. i love purpose built cars that can still be street driven.

Very Nice Build! I like the speed hole in the pillar.I want some shots of the engine. I realize the OEM ECMs are cheap, but man that looks like a lot of hassle. For 600 dollars he could have a real time fully adjustable controller with integrated WB02 and a little less wiring.

Actually it is the 7730.
Considered it, but I’d need 2 of them, one for each bank. It could work but I need to spend the money and don’t want to hassle with chopping my exhaust again. I’m putting in solid engine mounts, stiffer ‘hangers’ for the tip side, and I’m going to downsize the square pipe that goes through the rocker.
Thanks Dave! You’re right, it was a ton of work to make that look tidy. I’m intrigued by the 600$ system you are suggesting, what is it? Please PM me and/or direct me to the proper thread so we don’t cluttering up this thread.
Here’s a crappy pic of the engine bay. Engine is currently out for solid mounts, a Ron Davis Radiator, and a few other odds and ends.
Edit: another pic added:

Your car is amazing Stan, can't wait to see some track videos of it. The other cars on the thread are awesome too. I love the players cars.
I'm still plugging away at my build. Here are some recent picts of it on the road
Here is the cage and view of the wheel tubs. I am waiting to put the harness bar until I get my seat in. I have an ultra shield rally sport and G force harnesses going in there
about the tubs, the car has 17x12s in the back (335s) and 17x11s up front (315s)
I'm about done putting in a dana 44, disks, new exhaust +headers and then it's back to the time attack.

Yours is looking good too, you did a great job on those wheel tubs
I know by now what I'm dealing with.
Yeah, I'm going for that 'look'. Just wait until the radiator gets pushed 4" forward and it will look even more empty, C6R hood vent someday?.

Guys look on the classified. There are a couple Holley commander 950 setups for less than $600 dollars. You hook a Wideband to one of those and you have a very easy system to tune and get up and running.

the front wheels with spacers have 5.5" of backspacing
The rear wheels are a different story, like 86 TA said, to fit 335s required a significant rework.

Re: Road race thirdgen!! Pics wanted
Here's a pic of my 84 S/E waiting for its turn inside the garage. I bought it with the fiberglass fenders already installed. I paid the value of the fenders for the whole car so I figure it was a good deal.
There's about 16.5" between the rear outer fender lip and the inner fender wall. The previous owner simply bonded the fiberglass fenders over the stock sheet metal. So while it is now possible to install much wider wheels and tires, there would be almost no upward suspension travel available unless I do a bit of trimming on both the fiberglass and sheet metal.
I plan to remove most of the outer rear wheel wells and extend the inner wells straight out to the original outer fenders and trim those where they meet. The second half of the plan is to bridge the gap between the original fenders and the fiberglass with some expanded aluminum mesh and more fiberglass. If anybody has a better idea, I'm all ears.
I'm almost done with my 71 Formula 400's engine. Once it's reinstalled in the car, I can move the S/E inside. Progress reports will follow.

Nova,
Some advice; Make sure you are committed before you start. It has been a major source of frustration for me with the tight clearances and rattles etc. I've had header bolts rattle loose and the outlet crack on me. I've since added flex joints and have been expirementing with mount stiffness. Currently it resonates like a *****.

Re: Road race thirdgen!! Pics wanted
I'll chime in, having helped with the exhaust on BIG_MODS' car, and riding in the finished product, it is rough and rowdy to say the least. There is a lot more rocker panel, door frame and skin, and ground effects modification than is readily apparent in the pictures. The floor gets so hot you think it's going to melt your shoes. Obviously I would only recommend this as a race only setup, and even then I wouldn't do it unless you have noise restrictions.
Austin is a crazy idiot who likes to do things like this. His car is a testament to that fact. He has gotten it to be more workable than it initially was, but it's still wild, which on his car is a good thing. As he said, think before you cut, and once you've cut, stay the course to completetion. In my opinoin this is not a mod worth doing unless you are going to slam the car to the ground and need clearance.

hmmm...well after talking with my wife some, and hearing these things, maybe i'll pass. she doesn't care for the look , and it looks like more hassel than it may be worth. i intend to lower the car more than it already is, and the current exhaust already hits the trailer while loading and unloading. looks like it may be time to cut out the rear seat wells.

Didnt that exhaust modification weaken the strength and rigidity of the chassis? I didnt like the look of all that cutting and shutting of the frame.

He didnt cut the frame he put a window in the rocker panel. His roll cage and other chassis reinforcements more than make up for the hole. If he posts pix it will tell the tale. Right now the car is so stiff that it won't sit evenly on 4 jackstands now matter what you do. a far cry from the stock T-top car it started from.

I must be thinking of another exhaust mod I saw on line somwhere, the guy definitely cut a big lump out the frame although I think his exited just before the rear wheels, sorry about that. I think it was a white car as well duh!

I have attached a picture of mine from 2007 Year One Experience. This was the open track day, which was awesome. Since then, the car has been under the knife getting a new engine and transmission. Next month, she should be moving under her own power. Getting married and buying a house has slowed the rebuild down considerabley.

BIG MODS/Stan,
Your car looks incredible. Just an awesome build. Keep us posted on the progress or let me know when you get frustrated with it so I can take it off your hands

In my members post but here's a pic of my GTA at RAF Cottesmore
held its own against some half decent euro cars (E36 M3, 944 turbo)
if you have a min - check this clip out. A video some guy took on the day in his E36 saloon. I zoom by around 7:20 on the clip
http://youtu.be/YmXhAVF6wmc
It was pretty wet out there and the GTA handled nice and neutral

Hi GTA from London, I am from Watford up the road from you but just South so not a northerner lol! I am racing the 3rd gen on the 2nd Oct at Rockingham with the Classic Touring Car Racing Club I also intend to bring the 2nd gen as someone is paying me some sponsorship to bring her out as well just gotta figure out how to trailer two cars there! If you fancy it and like road racing it will be a packed race card as all our clubs stuff is now on the Sunday. http://www.barc.net/images/stories/p...K010210_V2.pdf
If you cant make it the last race of the season for me and not sure yet what car I will take is Bernie Codashes V8 Historic challenge which is taking place on the 23rd Oct and is a must attend for V8 freaks like us. Its also to support Help for Heros the charity for wounded service people.
