Jegs torque arm & Moser 9inch 3rd gen rear - saddle mount clearance problem??

I seem to be having a slight issue with the Jegs saddle mount and my moser 9 inch made for 3rd gen rear

when its all bolted up - the arms looks real close to the driver side tunnel - and like it would rub against three or four of the supplied saddle retaining bolts that run from the the back of the console area to the end of the saddle

I turned the bolts around and put the hex head end in from tunnel side and it was still too close to the arm

I swapped out and tried some carriage style (button head) bolts of the same size and that gives me a little better clearance but not what I consider good

My conclusion is
1) that the Moser rear torque arm mount is slightly offset to the driver side and so has the arm starting closer to the driver side tunnel than stock from the start

or

2) the reinforcement plate in the rear driver side tunnel that forms part of the parking brake cable anchor point forces the saddle mount slightly inwards at the rearmost mounting point

or both

Have any of you had any problems and have you had to do anything to the floor/tunnel to correct it ??

^ what he said. I dont have the jegster arm, but i do have the moser rear and it rubs the floor in the tunnel, and the upper bolt that holds the torque arm bracket to the rear, beat a hole in the floor behind the rear seat.

i have both the jegs adj. torque arm and the moser 9", just hammer where needed. I also removed the e-brake since I have an auto it'll never be needed anyways.

friend of mine could not make it work, even after having a local machinist make a new bracket, it was a wash. i think he ended up with a umi arm.every car is different.
i think his name is bygblok on here.

With the girth of a 9" compared to a stock 7.5, the mount basically has to move outward some. - No experience with a bolt-in one myself, just general experience with rear diffs.

Man, been so long ago, but i do remember having a few issues...vaguely though. I do know i had i think 2 or 3 bolts i left out and "spot welded" them to the floor pan, cant remember the exact reason why though, think i removed the E bracket brackets and such since like mentioned, i've never used an E brake on anything except old manual trannies i had growing up, other than that, BFH cured many wooo's

hmm...and i thought i was the only one that had torn a hole in the floor back there. the car now has lots of extra tubing inside and out so i'm not too worried about it

i have the BMR torque arm in my car and the top bolt that holds the bracket on hits the back seat area and the bracket that hold the torque arm on the rear hits the tunnel and it has torn through the tunnel. the car does have a moser rear

Which set of holes did you use on the torque arm bracket?

if i remember correctly i think its bolted on with the set of holes closest to the center section, and the outer set wouldnt line up.
i personally aint worried about it , it has torn a hole in the tunnel and the car work great 1.29 60 ft on a 28x10.5

Re: Jegs torque arm & Moser 9inch 3rd gen rear - saddle mount clearance problem??

If you have a 12-bolt or 9 inch we recommend using the inner most set of bolt holes to help tuck the torque arm into the housing as close as possible. Sometimes it may be necessary to slightly modify the bracket to make it work.

Glad to hear the suspension is working for you

Re: Jegs torque arm & Moser 9inch 3rd gen rear - saddle mount clearance problem??

I tried like hell to get the jegster-type arm to fit and with the Moser bracket it never worked(a waste of a few hundred bucks and WEEKS of time) I ended up with the UMI adjustable arm, k-member and a loop. It bolted right in with no problems.

i have a jegster torque arm and a 9in. We used a hammer for a while. Then ended up wedging a honda floor jack in the tunnel. It took care of bussiness very well.

Re: Jegs torque arm & Moser 9inch 3rd gen rear - saddle mount clearance problem??

Hello,

One of the main issues with the Moser 9" is the housing is much larger than a factory rear end......... This then forces the torque arm to the drivers side which hits the tunnel. One thing you could do is locate where the torque arm is hitting the tunnel and use a large hammer to make additional clearance. Also we would recommend a adjustable panhard bar to center the rear end and move it away from the driverside tunnel.

For this issue we add a additional set of holes in the torque arm were it mounts to the rear end. This allows the installer to slide the torque arm inward and offers addition clearance on drivers side. This is a very nice feature that i don't think the Jegs arm offers.

If there is anything else i can help with feel free to ask.

Thank you!

Brad Conrad

Re: Jegs torque arm & Moser 9inch 3rd gen rear - saddle mount clearance problem??

I was extremely happy with the fit and quality of the UMI piece I ended up with. Botled in as designed, no fuss at all and the k-member fit great. I may have some exhaust fitment problems(I have true-dual exhaust) but I love the way it went in and I'll work the other issues. No beating my perfect floor pan, no prying on anything to make it fit. If anyone wants this jegster piece let me know. I have the arm(been modded some), the slide link and the floor-pan mount. A decent offer plus the shipping takes it. It's gathering dirt in storage right now and doesn't do me any good at all. I leave for Alaska this Saturday for a few weeks of flying but should be back around 1 feb if anyone wants it. Otherwise it goes in the garbage with a few more of my errors!!
