My first time Down the 1/4!

Ok this was my first time down the 1/4. My dad rode as a passenger, also had my sterio with 2 12's box and amps in the hatch and street tires. It was so fun. The car has a 1996 vortec 350 but its mainly stock with TPI and a magnaflow cat-back. this weekend it gets ported slp runners, plenum and base.
here is my slip!
R/T .371
60' 2.125
330 6.058
1/8 9.344
MPH 74.74
1000 12.178
1/4 14.569
MPH 94.37

a Vid.

Re: My first time Down the 1/4!

It either needs a higher grandstand or you need a ladder to see the cars running.

Ditch the passenger and heavy stereo stuff and you might be in the 13's.

oh ok I understand. Yea the stands were full. it was a track day and we rented the track out so it was hard to see alittle in the vids. I could get a 13's sec. pass without him and the stereo? with him it wighed 3950. without(me and stereo) it weighed 3750. stero ways a good 300 pounds. I might rip it out cause going fast sounds better.

yeah you can't see the cars very well. Or is there another--higher place to watch?

Yeah you should be around 3400-3500 with just the car--add you--might be a 14.1 or so

yea you can't see well unless your in the one set of stands which is hard cause they pack up easy. I only weigh about 160 so not to bad.

or, just do what I do, and they dont care whos in what lane lol
Good job david, everyone started somewhere, so dont feel bad about that one pass on your daily driver, I know you had to take it home too so you didnt make alot of passes trying to bet every bit out of it. For the spring GAFBA deal pull the radio stuff out and run the 14.0 class, have some fun! Just make a couple of passes and set your dial in safe, this will get you some experiance in a race enviroment without really needing it to go faster.

well with the new runners, base, and plenum it should wake it up alittle. then after that it gets longtubes and a X pipe. It wasn't always my daily.. I sold my bronco cause gas sucked with it. (9 MPG) I will get another daily soon to take the DD spot. Hell for a daily its pretty quick. Im gonna take the radio stuff out next time I go to the track also.

Re: My first time Down the 1/4!

Its kind of funny, the guy who took that vid is standing in the lowest aerea on that side of the track (ironically right outside the restrooms), 20 feet in either direction you would be able to see better. Most of my pics and vids are from the same track
The turnout that day was huge, for a car club...200 plus tech cards and the small amount of stands were maxed out.
It was a great day at the track for fun, not too many passes for most due to amount of cars, but most were there to bs and have some fun

something else to think about david is the fact that you deep staged...that'll also make your overall et's slower. put a drag radial on the car with a set of lca relocation brackets, pull the stereo and tell your dad to wait on the sidelines and you got a 13.9 car without even trying.

I run 10's with my 4th Gen on a nearly stock 10 bolt, you're nowhere near the power level where you need to worry about that. Wheel hop kills these things, avoid wheel hop and you'll be fine. My 91' has almost 156K on the clock, stock - unopened 10 bolt. I throw drag radials on it any time I race.

A used set of drag radials, LCA's, & relo brackets knocked .5 off my ET for the 91'. The car was nearly stock at the time. I picked up a whole .58 MPH yet gained over five tenths... something to think about.

Re: My first time Down the 1/4!

those times were with his stock l98, not the 'vette l98. brian's right david, you're not yet at the power level to where you'll hurt that 10 bolt unless you wheel hop, which is why you get the lca relocation brackets the same day you get your drag radials. they're not hard to put on if you can weld. if not, then grab them whenever you get your sfc's put in and have at it. i went several 1.65 60's on my 10 bolt before i upgraded. i exploded my fair share of 10 bolts, as has brian, but when i finally upgraded to the 9", my 10 bolt was still in good shape, and is now sitting under my dad's ride.

if you do tear it up, it's not expensive to slap another one together, and by putting in a Ratech solid pinion spacer, you're increasing the chanced of that 10 bolt living through more punishment 10 fold. $20 worth of investment to watch that 10 bolt live to see some solid 1.6 60's.

Re: My first time Down the 1/4!

Thanks Matt, as mentioned - I have yet to race the car with the current mods.

The 13.93 pass was with: K&N's, free mods, !front sway bar, !cats, Magnaflow muffler, BBK 52mm TB, minor chip tuning, the previously mention suspension mods, worn out 255/50-16 BFG drags, an MSD 6A & blaster coil. That's it... almost 150K miles on the stock long block & 700R4. The engine was tired and the transmission slipped like mad on the upshifts. The trans fluid came out brown like river bed silt. The car had no weight reduction at all, and was raced how I drive it daily minus the drag radials.

I expect to go .5 - .7 faster with the fresh engine/trans. + headers, stall converter.

thanks for clearing that up.

I just got my SFC's installed today. I also got my ported slp runners and ported plenum. pro kit springs and KYB adjustible shocks. sway bar kit. I am gonna pull the sterio when the tracks reopen and run it again with the current mods. I also will be ordering some LCA relocation brackets in a month or two. what "should" it run with this stuff? I know the springs slow it down alittle.

Re: My first time Down the 1/4!

You "should" be well into the 13's with those mods, but it's all dependant on traction. Where do you have the base timing set? And do you have an adj. fuel pressure regulator?

stock timing. I haven't played with it yet. No I don't have a regulator yet.

Re: My first time Down the 1/4!

I mentioned those two things because you could somewhat "tune" the car through timing and fuel. Not an exact way of doing it, but it would be better than stock with the mods you've added. Do you have headers on the car yet?

yes I know I need to get them to get me a tune. it will help alot.

No I don't have any headers. I was gonna order them today but my tranny pump and front seal went out and had to spend 300 to fix that.

I am gonna run headman longtubes with a X pipe.

They will flash about 2500-2600 in a mildly modded f-body. It's a cheap upgrade and any auto parts store should have one in stock. Did an engine swap on a friend's 88' RS last summer, I talked him into one. He likes how stock it drives at part throttle, but likes how it gets the car moving better with his crappy gears when you hang your foot in it. I think his set him back $112 at vatozone.
