I have this wonderful 3rd gen I've had for a few years, dumped tons of $$$ into it, improved suspension, performance, done a lot of work myself... etc...

At the drag strip, I'm told, "you need a license"...

I came across "AutoCross" where you drive around a parking lot per say, by yourself, no other cars and work on your time... Sounds like a blast...

Why I have no DL?

I'm legally blind, dammit I wanna drive my car!

To educate a few of you, I'm not Stevie Wonder / Totally Blind, I have quite a bit of vision, I mountain bike, ride dirt bikes and ATV's, etc.. I just don't see enough to get a license...

The last bit of info... my third gen is a KR replica...

Any advice???

I would say you do but it realy depends on if they check it or not. I have never been checked for mine at the drag strip.

 

Try a local club (not the full on SCCA) & see.

I would suggest NOT asking them straight up, license or not, nor supplying ANY info without being asked. Such as "I'm legally blind...Does that matter?"

Go to a local event, register & see. I doubt they'll ask. I don't recall ever being asked to show mine.

Who ever drives you there, just let the event think it belongs to your driver.....

 

at our local events, the registration card ask for your DL number.

 

I have a state id with # on it... We'll see... It would be a blast to drive my car somwhere!

I dont know how it is in florda but in Louisiana the only diffrence between a state id and a drivers licence is one little mark. Most people dont even notice it so if they ask for your licence just give them the id and they wont think twice.

 

At all the SCCA events in the Milwaukee Region, they do ask for ID.

Also, make sure you bring a helmet along that meets their requirements because if you have to rent one, they will often take your drivers license as collateral. This just means they have more time to look at it and see it ain't what they wanted to see to begin with.

While I've never been asked for my license directly, it has been on the registration forms... Using a state ID card you might be able to get around that, but it's really hit or miss.

 

If you go to an SCCA event they will ask for your license. Things have gotten tighter with the new insurance policy.

I understand you want to drive your car, but breaking the rules of an organization to do it isn't going to set you in high regards with fellow competitors and you may be asked to leave and never come back.

You have to look at it from the standpoint of the organization. Sure you say you are fine and you may prove that you are, but what if something goes wrong and you would end up wrecking your car or hitting a worker or something. Can you live with the guilt, and I'm not sure if you would be covered by their liability insurance in that case either.

 

I don't wanna sneak by anyone... but I shouldn't just be thrown out because I don't have a license. Maybe a member can ride with my at slow speed, then faster, etc...

I want to drive and have fun with my car... I just wish people who drive everyday could see it from my side...

i understand how you feel..you and i both know that having a drivers licence dont mean your a good or safe driver. just to be safe have sombody ride with you if you get the chance...hope the best for ya
