show me some parachute mounts guys!

Looking to see a few pics of the chute and mounts if anyone has a picture or two...also thinking about one of those aluminum wings with the support struts but undecided if it is really needed or not at only 150 mph

Re: show me some parachute mounts guys!

Ed Quay has a nice third gen specific wing. The spoiler on a third gen adds enough downforce and the whole body style is one big wing applying downforce.

This is how I put my chute mount framework between the 4-link frame rails

If you don't have the car back halved, you can remove the rear bumper and put in something like this.

http://www.wolferacecraft.com/instal.../fbodpara.aspx

For best results, it should pull from the CG height. Mine is high which means it will pull the front end up when deployed. I've seen the chute attach to the back of the diff also but on a third gen, the diff is too far under the car.

Although my fastest speed has only been 144 mph, I installed the mount because it wasn't hard to do and I'm getting closer to needing one as per the rules. I have the bag mount also installed. All I need is the actual chute and release cable. I want a Stroud chute.

Re: show me some parachute mounts guys!

I have a plate welded to the rear reinforcement and a stub welded to that, than the shoot mount slips into the stub and a bolt goes threw so it can be removable.

It looks like yours pulls from the same height position. I'll take a picture of what I've got on mine later and post it.

Re: show me some parachute mounts guys!

Chute is required at 150 MPH although it's not mandatory to be used. Many racers running in the 150-160 mph range have adequate brakes or a long shut down area where a chute isn't needed to slow the car down. Some tracks with short shut down areas may have drivers installing and using a chute at 140 mph if they don't have good enough brakes. I knew a 12 second Nova with 4 wheel drums brakes who wanted to install a chute to get himself slowed down.

At 180 MPH, 2 chutes are required.

They all look good to me, at least it gives me a few ideas. Stephen is that the kit jegs and summit sell?

Re: show me some parachute mounts guys!

The removable chute mount is the Competition Engineering kit. The chassis mount was custom made from some leftover roll cage tubing.

I want to change the chute strap mount. Currently there's a bolt that holds the spacer in the yoke. I want to take the bolt out and use a pin similar to the one I have on the removable mount. That way, when I want to remove the chute, I just pull the 2 pins and lift it off. Right now, I would need tools to take the bolt out. Of course I would need to install the "Remove before flight" safety pin through the chute bag before removing the release cable.

I don't have or need a chute yet but still leave the mount seen in the picture in place. Once I get a chute, I'll want to easily remove it when the car is in transport. I use an open trailer and don't want to risk having the chute accidentally open while going down the highway. If I'm towing in the rain, I also don't want it to get damp. Install the safety pin, remove the release cable, pull 2 pins and pull the chute mount assembly off for transportation storage.

NHRA rule book says thats a no-no, anchor cannot be a removable pin, must be a bolt, I dont know about IHRA rules though.

Re: show me some parachute mounts guys!

OK. Rules state, the use of a ball lock pin is prohibited but that doesn't mean it still needs to be bolted. I could use any one of these and still be legal according to the rules. If tech doesn't like it, a bolt can still easily be installed.

Re: show me some parachute mounts guys!

That removable set up for towing on an open and weather is a good point, I`m in the same boat no room for a huge enclosed or the pocket book. The links are not working for me, could you use a hitch pin and quick clip? Although a bolt and nylock wouldn`t be that much of a hassle for the peace of mind.

Re: show me some parachute mounts guys!

Bumping this thread. Those with stroud chutes, u guys just getting the highest # one they offer? Seems all of their calculations are for much lighter cars. Also does the chute come with the pack and misc other bullsh*t or does that need to be ordered seperatley. Strouds website isn't the greatest and I don't feel like calling them right now. Thanks in advance.

Re: show me some parachute mounts guys!

Get the Prostock chute. #460 I think. The chute comes with chute, bag, pilot chute etc.

You need to provide a way to mount it to the vehicle and a way to release it.

correct, however i'm looking at the jegs site and it states "canopy only" .... which is why i'm asking this question in the first place. I already have a mount and release etc etck...

That's what you need. I doubt jegs, summit etc will sell just a replacement canopy. If the chute is ever in need of repair, it needs to be sent back to Stroud.

I have a Diest. It is cheap and slows my car down without brakes at 160+. It's easy to pack when I am the only one at the track.
