New best tonight, 9.62 @ 141 and video

As said in post, pretty good night and all passes but last better than previous best.
First 1.45 60 rear tires, 6.14 @ 112, 9.626 @ 140.98
Second pass almost exact, other than 1.35 60 due to slight slip causing front to drop early, 6.13 @ 112, 9.628 @ 140.54
Track went away as night went on, all being lost in the 60ft.
3rd pass 9.64 @ 140.3, 1.37 60 ft
4th pass 9.66 @ 140.1, 1.38 60ft
5th pass 9.69 @ 140.4, 1.42 60 ft - that pass probably could have bested them all, but traction just was not there for me, most people were running under by then, that took me out in third round.

Did not beat previous best by much, previous was 9.68 @ 141, which I have match a few times, but never beat. The car still has 50s hidden in it, and want to hit that prior to spraying, still trying to get to MIR before end of year, only time and weather will tell.

Track photograper got a good photo I think, will have to wait few weeks to find out probably.

Second pass

nice going!! I found I had to spread the RPM limiter and shift light by at least 400 rpms to catch them in time, stay off the limiter and the 50`s may be there already, cool vid though..love how your car wheelies. I`m right on your heels 87...one and a half tenths off still on motor...new best on the 150 shot though

Thats wierd, I heard that on vid, and can always hear it in car if I do and not very often.. As well, pops is always there to remind me that I screwed up - funny how that never changes after 34 years.. Actually took limiter up to 7900 from 7700 because an occasional hit.. But it sure sounds like it in the vid?? And the pass prior was identical... hmmmm, actually thats the pass where it spun slightly in air, came down pretty hard and did and bounce, and actaully threw me left a little, Thats right at the time of the 1-2 shift..
I do have some more power left under the hood literally, My hood is only about 1.5" off top of carb, 2 years ago removed it for one pass and picked up a 1/10... New hood is on the list for some year.. Really happy though, that car made it all season with no mechanical issues since transmission.

And man!!! 144 MPH!! Sweet!!
9.15!!!!!!!! That is sick bud, one hel of a ride man!
Where did all that come from? Man I want to spray, need to start searching ebay from a dominator plate.

What are the specs of your big block? I would like to do a 496 onm the street and see if i can do 9s on motor but it is not so easy with 11 to 1 compression. But damn, you are turning 7500 RPM in a big block? You muct be running a mechanical roller with high compression.

Re: New best tonight, 9.62 @ 141

Compression is only 13:1, if you dropped to 11:1 you should not lose more than probably 60-70HP tops.. CarCraft did a test on a mopar dropping from
12:1 down to like 8.5:1 and only lost a little over 100HP.
Mine is 496 eagle rotating, of course mech roller, AFR 325 cast heads, 1250 dominator, Victor 454r.. I may try extending limiter and shifting closer to 8000 to see if it picks up, it really seems to start pulling at 7000, which may hold true, i was just tapping limiter on that pass at 7900 and run best time to date...

Re: New best tonight, 9.62 @ 141

I spin my 540 to 7400. It starts to nose over above that. Needs a different cam grind to go higher. I'm running tiny 310 heads. The engine needs at least 345's. Only $3000 for a set of big assembled heads built to handle my current camshaft.

I can't remember my exact compression ratio. Somewhere around 13:1. Would like to bump it up to 15:1 but would need smaller combustion chambers to do it. The engine already has the largest lightweight dome piston available. Small combustion chambers however shroud the large valves so it's a trade off.

Re: New best tonight, 9.62 @ 141

Not bad, i might go with 12.5 to 1 if i can get the E85 readily available. Then there is the 100 octane low lead nav gas at the air strip right next to my house. But i think i might not be able to go 12.5 to 1 with that, i am not sure. What are your cam grind specs?

Good to see it going faster. Are you going to limit your front end travel or have you already tried to? And I have a new 5'' jonblod hood and a new dominator plate.
