Depends on the options originally in the car. Typically, it's around 3500 pounds but can go a couple of hundred pounds either way.

Trouble with going faster is that you also need to add weight. Dipping into the 9's means things like a full cage which can easily add 100+ pounds back into the car.

My car is a stripped down, race only car and the race weight sitting on the starting line is 3042 pounds. It's getting difficult or expensive to get that lower.

With a race weight of 3000 pounds (car, driver, fuel etc) and running 9.90, you'll need to put approximately 675 HP to the wheels. That means you'll need about 800 flywheel HP. You're going to need a lot more engine or a lot more power adder to do that with a SBC.

Re: what mph do i need>???

87 TA went 10.07 at 133 in a what i think was a 3400 lbs car, not sure if that was with him in it or not. probly 600whp or so. his 406 was probly in the 450whp range n/a. 125 shot puts close to 600whp. my car is closer to 3500 lb race weight anymore and i trapped 125 on a weak 150 shot that probly acted like a 100 shot so thats 500whp or so. I expect 128mph with the leaner jetting and that should be in the 530-550whp range. made 400 on motor alone and go 118.

9.90's consistantly in a 3000-3100 lb car should take 135-137 mph traps or so depending on the launch and how the power band/gearing is, and that should be around 550-600whp i'd say

Re: what mph do i need>???

well I'm trapping 116-117 and I have large kit on my car

I'm in the process of a tubular front end and full suspension

Also I'm swapping out a bigger can to get me in the 135-139 region

I was just curious if that and a great launch could get me a 9 sec pass

Re: what mph do i need>???

it will be a stretch to reach 135+ mph with that setup i think. I know i've seen cars trapping 124-125 on motor hit 133 with a 125 pill, i think you need to be closer to 120 on motor and then add the 200 shot to see it go near 135.

I hope my nitrous 150 shot acts like a true 150 shot now that its leaned out where it needs to be, but i still only expect 128 mph traps from my 118 on motor.

Re: what mph do i need>???

My old 380'' motor would go 120mph on motor and with a 275 tune up it would go 9.70 @ 140mph with a 1.40 60 ft. @ 3400lbs. To make a 9 sec pass you will need to be 133-136 mph range
