after all the respect he has gained for making a beast of a 305 I would lose it all if he put a 2jz motor in his car. Just not right IMO.

I agree, but I've been very tempted at times to replace the 2.8 in my firebird with the turbo 3.0 nissan v6 I've got on the engine stand. I could even use an f-body t5 with the nissan bellhousing to take care of the torque arm.

Re: my car eats motors bigger than a 305...

Yea but does the input shaft on the t-5 work with the nissan stuff? Right length, spline, etc Does the t-5 bolts even line up to the nissan bellhousing? IDK i think its to much work to fabricate to put something like that in an american car when you could easily for a lot cheaper go american and make a ton of power and pretty much drop it right in the car. Also people will say that those 2jz motors are crazy because of the power they make for the displacement they have, but strap a turbo onto a sbc and with low boost your making some serious power. The 2jz motors need like 30 plus lbs to compensate. Im not attacking you by any means I THINK it really wouldnt be smart, its like putting a ford motor into a chevy??? lol but the other way around would make a little sense

The temptation is that I have just about all the stuff to make 400rwhp with the jap motor where I would have to spend a decent amount to build up the extra 350 I've got. An F body hooks waaaaay beter than the jap motors original chassis. The turbo stuff I have just wouldn't work well on a v8 or it would go on a v8. Fabricating stuff is the least of my concerns, not that I think about it, the fbody t5 would slant the nissan motor over to one side 15* assuming the thing bolts up.

I think I'm just going to leave the jap motor to the jap car right now.

I'm thinking heavily about putting an SBC in my dads 87 300zx parts car, just for the hell of it.

This conversation is a wee bit off topic.

if you look at any dyno charts of those turbo jap motors they don't make any real power until about 8k pretty useless on the street or with a 3 speed

Re: my car eats motors bigger than a 305...

alright, quit with the jibba-jabba...the jap motors can be made to be just as streetable as your carbed cammed 350 and you know it...it's all about how you build it, just like i can build a 305 that runs 12.3x's but has no street manners cause it's gotta spin hard to do it...

So what is it matt, an LS1 or a ford modular. Don't make me start some rumors.

You should come to NYIRP this weekend, it's the last weekend they're open. Don't worry, I'll bring the camaro that has a camaro engine.

Build your own headers, it can't be that hard.

Yea no heat = put a few layers on, no choke = sit in car and baby it until it warms up, and drag radials = heat them up and there fine

speedway sells a header kit for pretty cheap. 1 3/4 primaries on it, that's what i'm going to do. talk to stage20 about fitment of the hawks headers. are you using spohn mounts for the conversion? hopefully i'll have my car back from paint soon to let you know how the trans dapt adapters work. good luck, and o yeah, congrats on the wedding, its an exciting time

Re: my car eats motors bigger than a 305...

Matt, why not use the stock manifolds for awhile? it will cost less than headers and you wont lose a ton of power, trust me that wedding stuff gets expensive lol. I realize that there is something about headers in there but chances are you will have pretty good perf. right out of the box, and some weight savings also, or get some u and j bends and build your own, several places are selling flanges for ls engines now. either way, seeing you go through the last ordeal, I think i would lean twords keeping it simple, and not getting too greedy right away, it should work right first , then be improved.

i know what you're saying rich...and i'm starting to calm down...i got alot on my plate and i'm just trying to get it all together. my folks bought the firebird from me last week, so the ring is getting paid for, and kristin knows that i'm using the money from that to get the car back together. my biggest thing is i GOTTA slow it down a little bit. i'm not having fun right now, and that's not cool, cause i eat, sleep, and breath drag racing, and when you don't have fun doing somethign like this and it just becomes a chore, then why did it at all? there's guys on here that are starting to go really fast, and that's making me really jealous, cause i was faster than them just last season, like Justin for example (Orr89Iroc), that car is BLAZING, but just last season he was 6 tenths slower than me...as i type that, it seems like i'm just trying to "keep up with the jones's"...but i think you get where i'm going...i'm just ready to have enough power to justify my safety equipment...

Hey Matt, I hope everything works out the way you want it to. I made a mistake on buying an engagement ring for the girl I was with for 4 years. We were living together and all. Needless to say, I'm stuck with a ring completely paid for and can't get half of what I paid for it back. I could use that for a Ford 9" and parts for my turbo build...

i seriously appreciate it and can now totally simpathize with the frustrations you were going through earlier this year....i'll let ya know...unfortunately the only real help i need right now is financial and i don't think i have anything that will work on your car for you to buy from me, lol...except maybe my awesome starter...

i hate to hear that zach, but honestly, we've been dating for 9 months and we're ready to tie the knot...we're both on the same page, we're old enough now to have done all the "college kid" stuff and we're ready. May 16th to be exact...just haven't gotten the ring yet ($659 to go as of this morning! YEEEAAAAAAHHHHH!) this is far more important than anything car related!

as far as the headers go, i'm gonna bite the bullet and get the hawks ones...i thought about doing the manifolds and upgrading later, but this is one of those things that i'd just rather do once. i'm not going too crazy with the inital build to get it going. ls1, stock internals with a baby cam (212*/219*), ls6 intake, 4l60e with Vig3200, hawks headers and full exhaust, and that'll be pretty much it.

i AM considering selling my wheels if anyone wants to throw out an offer.

Matt, it bums me out to see you not want to fab your own headers. I know it would be tedious, but I've seen all the sweat you've poured out doing work for other people. Isn't it worth it for yourself? Plus that money you save could go elsewhere... like for a honey moon.

I can say that there is something to be said for "I built those", but building headers is not an easy task, especially on jackstands. If you have an outrages combo that needs something custom, then its worth it, but for a mostly stock ls there are plenty of proven items that just bolt right in. The time he would spend on headers , he could spend studying and advance his education, thus getting a great paying job, then having someone else build his cars for him while counting his blessings. I am very happy for Matt to have found someone he wants to spend the rest of his life with, and although its not making his car faster, It is making them happier. I wish them the best!
Matt, yes you do need to slow down, there will always be a faster car no matter who you are, so dont rush to get it done. I will tell you first hand that when you go to the track and something isnt right, it will be a worse day than if you take a little longer and sort things out first. I would rather have all that safety stuff and never need it than not have it and need it. You will get the car together eventually, but dont put a date on the whole project. Pick small parts of it and plan on one part at a time, it will help with a sense of accomplishment also.
Most Important, though, is your wedding, time at the track is easy to get , memories that last a lifetime are priceless. (This from a guy who was late to his own wedding, I was the only one that didnt get directions to the chapel LOL I still remind wifey about that from time to time).

i hate to hear that zach, but honestly, we've been dating for 9 months and we're ready to tie the knot...we're both on the same page, we're old enough now to have done all the "college kid" stuff and we're ready.

Good luck Matt! I hope everything works out for you! I can't wait to see the process of your LS1 build. One day I will be doing that with an 87 Iroc I've always wanted. In the mean time. I'm going turbo on my firebird for the next few years...
