Unexpected end to the club race season
Tonight was the last race of our "Club Clash" season. I went into the night in 5th place, 2 rounds out of first in the '57. I was running the Camaro for my son, who is off in college now, who was in something like 32nd place.
Time trials went pretty well, both cars running on the weather station, fair to decent lights. They run the quicker class first, so I ran the '57 first. Three of the guys ahead of me and #6 went out in the first round before I even ran, so it's looking promising. Wouldn't you know, I had one of the worst lights I've had all year against a decent light in the other lane, I'm out first round. The points leader was in the pair behind me, he wins, as does 7th place. Well, that does it for the season in that car.
I wait until they call the slower class, manage a win in the Camaro. In fact, repeated that 7 more times for the class win. I had the better light each round (the 2nd time I can remember doing that), including 2 red lights in the other lane. The sweetest was the 5th round, when I got paired up with the kid in 1st place (he took me out at the Div V finals in Topeka last year) - I marveled at the green light as I took off - thought it was sure to be red - he had an average light to my .005 and I pushed him out the back end.
I ended the season in 7th place (they award the first 6 at the end-of-season banquet), my son tied with a fellow club racer for 12th.
They start a fall series Saturday, not sure I'll get a kitchen pass for that, though. 3 Saturdays and a Sunday for the "season".

I did get the kitchen pass, just took the '57 out, though. Had a decent day with RT's, averaged .022 in eliminations. Got paired up with that same kid again in the 3rd round, put an .012 on him to his .048, pushed him out the back again. Afterward, he said, "I don't want to line up with you anymore." I said, "If you've been trying to, what can I say?" He won two different classes this year, so taking him out twice in the same weekend was especially sweet.

Since he's won more track championships at age 21 than I have (actually, he's won more this year than I ever have), I guess he has reason to think it.

I've had a couple of times of getting lined up with top 5 hitters, but never more than a couple of them in one race.
Always sweet to get the win light against known-good racers.
