First nitrous passes on the 383 HSR!

Not as good as i expected but so far its good. It was a BLAST to spray tho. Just feels good!

Got the car setup this week and finished up TODAY at like 630, gates open at 7pm. I had a fuel fitting leak on the rail i could not stop and i had a bit of nitrous leaking from the purge solenoid pipe thread fittings.

Tightened and sealed things up again and again and finally got it to seal. test sprayed the setup and it worked so off to the track tonight.

150 hp jets in, had the ignition box pull 5 degrees at first then 4 on last pass. Total of 30 degrees WOT. Window switch to come on at 4800 rpm so i didnt quite hit it off the line. Plugs are 2 steps colder than base rating and gapped at .035" I should have been well off with this setup

Car ran pig rich at 10.5 to 1 give or take a few pts. I ended up going to a 125 hp shot fuel jet which was .003" smaller and it didnt help so i will have to drop down more.

Anyway, i babied the launch, rolling into throttle for a 1.65 60 foot starting to spin as the nitrous hit by 4800 rpms. Once it hit it spun but then shifted second and took off. I left it in drive, and let it shift itself which is somewhere around 600-500 rpms below where i normally do. I tried shifting myself and it ended up on the limiter as it accelerated way tooo fast.

Best run was a 10.92 on a 1.65 60 foot. 11.14 on the limiter and spinning worse, and then 10.96 at 125 on a 1.61 60ft.

1/8 mile 7.03 at 100 was my best. its falling over on the top end due to being rich i think. only picking up 24 mph from there on out. i do that n/a. I figure nitrous would pick up a touch more than that.

Not as i hoped for but still fun and still a good starting point.. Traction is hopeless on motor alone, let alone another 100+whp and torque. I gotta get that issue worked out but the 10 bolt doesnt mind spinning

VIDS coming

Very Nice. Sounds like a blast. I wouldn't mind a NX kit. I wonder what I would run with a 100-150 shot with my set up.

That's moving!

I pick up 23mph in the second half trapping 108.

that right lane cant be right. 100 1/8 mile and then 121mph 1/4. next 2 runs in the left at 99.xx and then 125. My n/a runs usually are 93 and 118, picking up 25mph which is pretty good for a n/a car i think.

I have been complaining about that for years dude, tell Frank, he will say its your car - even though many others have complained also.
Good runs man! I have that you only picked up 87 HP using trap speed.. So you have atleast 1-1.5 in the 60ft, and probably 3 or more mph once you get it dialed in.. When I sprayed, I only pulled 2°, Fill S. told me don't pull any.. So going so conservative, and so rich you ran well!!
Use your E-Prom fr timing, pull some early, than put it back in at higher rpms.
Your 1-2 shift is in pain though bud...
10.92 first time out, can't be mad about that, and short shifting to..

Great runs, i recently installed a 100-150 it on my RS, i love it but it has now destroyed...or finished off my T5. It killed 3rd and now it doesnt like to shift much at all. I am surprised it hadnt died a long time ago.

i have selectable timing retard on my Mallory 685 box 12 volts triggers it so i wired the nitrous WOT switch to it pulls whatever i want from 1-15 degrees in .1 increments. I think i'll try 32 total or only pulling 2. Once i lean it out it should haul some ***

Thats the truth! the trans shifts slower than hell and the 2-3 shift is the one that usually doesnt quick shift. I have to get this thing worked over i just dont feel like doing it

This kit was rated 150 at the wheels and i know i didnt make that last night haha being that rich and that much timing gone. I do wonder how much it will pick up or even what fuel jet to try. .062 n20 .032 fuel. i have .028 and .026 left

Re: First nitrous passes on the 383 HSR!

kit is rated for 45psi fuel, 950psi bottle, and 150 at the wheels with a .062 Nitrous jet, .035 fuel jet

I am now running 31.5 degrees timing or so, and a .032 fuel jet which was for the 125 shot. Airfuel looks to be near 11 to 1 or damn close to it. timing helped bring it up a touch. i think it will handle 33 degrees timing and i'm probly gonna try that tomorrow or sometime this week if possible. hell i may try to schedule dyno time i know i know, you dont like the dynos but i just curious as to how much this shot is getting me

i would think 150whp or around that will push me to over 128mph. i'm not too far off so i think leaning it out some will work. Or i can order the .067 200shot jet for the nitrous and just add more ballz

How do they rate fuel jets anyway? 45 psi fuel pressure thru a .035 nozzle is for a 150 shot but at what air fuel does that make it? i know they run rich for safety purposes for those factory guys or others without a air fuel gauge to monitor the setup

I remember thinking your car would go above 128 too I am not sure what the formula is, I used to know it.. But my TPI plate kit was supposedly designed for 39psi, and I was running 46psi..
I could deffinetly see dyno time being helpful, especially tuning that in. The day I tried mine on the dyno the car spun, the graph made a loop.lol
I just got the parts in for my 6 speed, hope to get that back together, want to spray it to before years over, never tried with the 6-speed yet.

Looks like its coming together nicely!! I would deff get it on a dyno to tune it. Might save alot of headaches and nitrous!

Re: First nitrous passes on the 383 HSR!

how are they rating their kits at the wheels? if it makes 150 at the wheels with a manual trans and 10 bolt with street tires, it wont make nearly as much with a th400, 9" and 28" slicks.
i want to say i have a 55 or 58 nitrous jet in my car right now, and it added ~85rwhp. calculator said it was a 135 shot (flywheel).

i think your car is running great so far! i would try bringing the juice on sooner, though. like 3,000 maybe. they probably arent prepping the track very well past the tree, so when the nitrous comes on it might upset the tires where its not prepped as well.

Re: First nitrous passes on the 383 HSR!

Just sucks as i have to leave work so early just to get to the dyno. The one i go to isnt open on weekends. I may have to ask if he could do me a special favor

edit:

Kit i'm not sure what the actual rating was for. I've seen kits rated like this for LSx cars that make additional 120 or so hp at the wheels. I know a guy that said he had a 150shot and it dyno'd 121 whp more

I'd be happy with that.

I would bring the juice on sooner but that 10 bolt will not like it, nor will my trans haha. The 26x10.5 et streets dont hold, and yes the track prep sucked that night. being my first time with it, i had no idea what to expect so i set it high to be sure i could have time to react if something went wrong
I have a set of 26x11.50 et streets to try for next time which should be oct 5th

Re: First nitrous passes on the 383 HSR!

why not try some et drag or hoosier slick.....been running hoosier 28x10x16 on my 10 bolt(with 4.10) all season with 1.5x 60'....they dont mind low 60' as long as you have an auto tranny....even if it break atleast you will know the limit.

by the way nice, car is going great

Justin, it helps to run with the slick cars also due to track prep and heat.

Can i just line up over there? Didnt think i could do that I like being a street car class tho, as i'm one of the faster ones there and it stands out better.
Also do they tech you in more strictly than street? Street they dont do much

it will never be fast enough maybe next year i'll go for 9.90's? may be close by the end of this year if i get a 12 bolt and finally hook, and possibly throw in a 175shot pill.

Orr90, wow man....very impressive. Almost jealous. How far (RPM's) do you wind that thing out? I tried the track last week and shifted at what I thought was 5200 but tunerpro said 4300 No juice here though...just forced induction. PM me a shot of your timing table if you can. My goal is to get a timing table squared away this winter, along with a buch of swaps & mods to the car.

Re: First nitrous passes on the 383 HSR!

Fuel system is just a intank walbro 255 with hotwire kit from RaceTronix. Hotwire kit boosts voltage so its good for 550-600whp they say which i hope to be around.

42lb injectors but that doesnt really matter as much since fuel pressure from the rail is whats feeding the wet kit. I just made a thread on my install in the power adder section

I think my trans shifts by itself around 6000 rpm, could be around 5800 too its hard to say since my tach is alittle off. 6500 is 6250 or so on the tach, my trans looks to be shifting at 5700 on the tach so thats close to 6000.

Peak hp was at 6300 and i like to shift at 6500. Never got that chance tho, i tried and rpms where too fast for me to react to, i hit limiter set at 6700.

I'll pm you my table. I am pretty conservative i think, and only pulling 2 degrees of timing for the 150shot.

well here is a program I found very helpful since I'm running the old dual nozzle 5151 setup and no documentation is avaliable so I found this and it's worked great I also watched the wideband.

I was almost thinking my nitrous side isnt injecting as much nitrous as it should but we'll see what it does once i lean it out some with the smaller jets. Maybe something is closing the solenoid
