28x10.5x15 mt et drag slicks

i had a set of hoosiers 26x9x15 but i ended up damaging one of them and my friend gave me the mt's.

he said they are a stiff sidewall slick so they dont buldge out as much as the other ones

ill be mounting these on 15x8 weld draglights,

now my ? is before i take the time to unmount the hoosiers will a 28x10.5 tire fit under the back of 3rdgen with a stock rear? without anything more then cutting the lip on the fender?

Re: 28x10.5x15 mt et drag slicks

Maybe. I squeezed some 29.5 x 10.5's under my fenders but I also had a bunch of inner fender modifications. With the shorter height, it may or may not clear the front radius of the inner fender and you may have to cut off the bump stop also to get the 10.5 under the fenders.

The 8" wide rims are going to be small for the 10.5 tire. Some 10" rims with 5.5" backspace will be much better.

Re: 28x10.5x15 mt et drag slicks

thnx ill give them a shot, the friend who gave them to me ran them on a 15x8 on his grandnatonial, and i dont have any 15x10 rims.if they were brand new slicks and i knew for sure they would fit i might go buy a set of 15x10 draglites.

but im just gonna be using these to get me threw the rest of the year.

i already removed my bumpstops, the ds rear slick woudl always wedge against it when i put the car on the lift.never had any issues on the passenger side though.

Re: 28x10.5x15 mt et drag slicks

i run 28x10.5 hoosiers on a 15x10 wheel. 5.5" backspacing.
bumpstop area was removed, i removed a little bit of material at the front of the inner fender, and lots of hammering with a 3lb. sledge.

Re: 28x10.5x15 mt et drag slicks

I once upon a time had 28x10.5 ET Drags on my car with 15x8's 5.5" backspacing. I had to take out a sledge hammer and beat the crap out of front side of the inner fenders. The sidewall of the tire also hit my emergency brake cable/bracket, and when you jacked the car up and let the rear hang down the sidewall hit the bump stop. Even when beating the wheel wells out the tire was very close, so close it made me wonder what would happen when/if the tire grew down the track.

Hopefully this isn't too dark to see the tires... A few people assumed my car was mini-tubbed with those tires because they tucked in so far.

Re: 28x10.5x15 mt et drag slicks

mounted the slicks today, had a hard time getting the beads to seat on the 15x8's but i finally got them on.

neways i bolted them onto a friends camaro using some 1/4 thick spacers, the only interference was on the front edge of the slick by the lca.that piece of sheetmetal that hangs down. but mine are already clearanced there so they should bolt right on even without the spacers.

the best part was they even cleared the bumpstops on my friends car,but only if u jacked the car up under the rear

keep in mind that when you turn, the whole sidewall will move over quite a bit at times. you need a good bit of clearance.

Re: 28x10.5x15 mt et drag slicks

i will check it tomorrow, i left the slicks at a friends house that lives right by the track im gonna pick them up when i take the car to the track, i prolly had about 1.5 inches clearance on his car all the way around, ewxcept for by that one part of the inner fender it only had about 3/8's clearance.

when i get to the shop today im going to hammer out my inner fenders a lil bit more just to be sure though

I'm running the same slicks on 15x8's with 4.5 BS, and they fit fine without any mods, although I did roll the inner lip just to be on the safe side. FWIW the 28 x 10.5S recomendation from M/T is a 9" rim. Mine mounted up easily, I am still playing with psi on these...but so far 11.5 is working the best.

Re: 28x10.5x15 mt et drag slicks

yeah i think they say 9-10 rim for them i just didnt have anything that wide.

im going to the track in a lil while im gonna try 12-14psi in them first pass.

im hoping i can hit these tires hard,
Comming off the footbrake at 4,000 rpms and 8+ psi of boost i would spin with the 26x9's

im going to put down my first pass at 9 psi and come out of the hole liek 4k and 7 psi

second pass im going for broke and gonna try a 4,400 launch with 15 psi of boost and see if they will bite

i just hope the ring and pinion stay in one piece lol, car will pull a high 1.8-low 1.9 on the street tires comming out of the hole at only 2-3 psi and 3k rpms

in 2 buddies cars we're running 13.5psi in a heavier car(3500lbs) and 12-12.5 in a lighter car around 3k pounds. I'm surprised you're running such low pressure in them.

Re: 28x10.5x15 mt et drag slicks

we ran 15 psi in them tongiht way to much pressure.

they spun both runs comming out of the hole even spinning the car cut a 1.83 60'

since we have them on 8 in wide rims we only ran on the middle 7-8 inches of the tire,we had to hot lap the car so i didnt have time to drop the presure.

next time out i will try 12 psi and see if that helps

Re: 28x10.5x15 mt et drag slicks

I am running an et street. It is a 28x12.5x15 on a 8" prostar rim with a 4.5 backspace. I used a hammer to push in the inner fender well with no problems.
The only problem is when I have a passenger in the rear seat, then it rubs when I hit bumps. But a new set of shocks and a air bag will fix that.

Re: 28x10.5x15 mt et drag slicks

Looks like there are different sidewall widths for the 10.5 with different part numbers. The wider ones are just as wide as my 29X12.5 were and I had to do major cutting/beating to get them to not rub going down the road, but on hard turns they still would.

I started out with 12 and dropped the .5 # and got the car to 60 ft a little bit better. With my old soft sidewalls 12 was the best for it. With these new stiff sidewalls the 11.5 seems to be working for now. FWIW car weighs 2910 going down the track.

no way you'd need a 4th gen rear or cut the bump stop out. I barely fit 255/50-16s in i'd have to cut that bump stop out to fit anything bigger

arent the 28x10x15 the same as a et street 28x12.5x15. i ask because i plan on running the 28x12.5x15 on a set of 15x10 BS streetlight wheels with 6.5" bs. and skinnys up front. it will be my driver for a while so i will be running some cheaper bfgs when driving normal mounded on cough stock wheels. lol
