right now im running boyd smoothie IIs(17s) up front. they have a 245 tire on them. how much would it help me if i were to switch to skinnies up front. im just wondering because if i were to do this i would have to ditch my 13in HD corvette brakes and go to smaller ones. i just want to know if it would be worth for me. thanks for any help

 

you'll loose probly 40lbs up front..possibly more its hard to say. every little bit helps

That's the downside to skinnies. It saves a lot of weight and reduces rolling resistance but you're limited to 10.5" disk brakes. I use Aerospace front brakes and have no problems slowing down. Drag racing brakes don't need huge rotors and multi piston calipers. My tiny brake pads and aluminum calipers are dual piston and do fine but then I'm not street driving or road racing where huge rotors are required to dissipate heat.

If you want the huge, heavy rotors and calipers, you're limited to using large and heavy tires and rims.

 

greg weld wheels might clear your brakes, they were worth about .15 in the eighth on my friend's car. he was running stock single lines with a 245 tire. the greg weld wheels will clear stock 4th gen brakes, so you may be okay

 

i'll be getting C5 13 inch brakes and upgrading my skinnies to GTO spares which are 17x4.5 or so. 26x17 M&H front runners will work nicely

 

hey Orr don't GTO's use a different bolt pattern?

 

its like .65 mm difference in spacing. 5x120 as opposed to 5x120.65 for Fbodys.

thats only .025". There is that much play in the lug holes
