Another personal best

Made 2 passes tonight during T&T. First pass just sucked. My ignition just doesn't like my crank trigger. The engine was popping under load like an ignition problem. I may have to buy a new distributor cap so I can modify it to phase the distributor. Idled across the finish line running 12.524 @ 76.09.

Plugged the distributor back in and reset the timing. Second pass 9.425 @ 142.75 MPH for a new personal best and even a new corrected best. It was hot today. My coolant temperature was over 200 when I got back to the pits.

Before I could make a third pass, one of my slicks developed a bad leak so I loaded the car onto the trailer and called it a night. I'm also still leaking oil out the front and rear of the intake manifold seals. Need to get everything fixed before Tuesday.

Killer reaction times tonight.
First pass .014
Second pass .013

I need to modify my car number. I'm now 1Z28 but the tower saw 1728. I'll put the cross through the Z and hopefully they'll understand.

Got some video of both runs and will post the new best as soon as I can. Not sure how it turned out yet. Car had a lot of tire smoke in it on that pass from my burnout

Re: Another personal best

Are you still using the holley ignition? I had mine hooked up with a crank trigger for years, and it worked fine.

Re: Another personal best

Holley ignition, Holley crank trigger. I'm guessing my distributor isn't phased properly when I use the crank trigger. It did the same thing the last time I was out. Fist pass sucked until I switched the wiring back to the distributor.

The crank trigger/distributor wiring can only be connected one way but I'm going to recheck to make sure I don't have any sensor wires crossed.

I really wanted to make that third pass. I fattened up the fuel and bumped up the launch rpm from 5000 to 6000. Tire pressure was going to be 7 psi but the one tire was already down to 3.5 psi.

I finally watched the video. Smokey in the car but not too bad. I wish I had someone to use the other video camera I borrowed for an external shot. Looks like it was a good wheels up launch. The guy that was supposed to film me didn't pass tech so he left to see if he could fix his car. As soon as the length editing is done, it gets posted to Streetfire.

Re: Another personal best

Where did you run your wiring for the crank trigger, and did you properly phase it ...it should be wired so that it is more retarded, if you can swap wires in the connector that is the easiest way to check, if you swap them and it advances, you had it right so switch it back, and look for another problem, also when you set up the crank trigger did you phase the rotor?

Re: Another personal best

Crank trigger wire runs along the top of the fender and stops right at the distributor. That way I can quickly switch from one to the other. I phased the rotor as best as I could without cutting a hole in the cap to see exactly where the rotor was. It's possible I had it advance or retarded the wrong way.

I originally had the distributor timed to 37*. I then installed the crank trigger, rotated the timing marks to 37* and adjusted the trigger to a magnet. Timing was still at 37* when I fired it up using the crank trigger.

Video of my last run is now online.

^ Getting closer and closer to chute territory, unless you already have one installed....???

Everything is installed except the chute and release cable. Just under 143 mph at altitude means I'm close enough that I should get it installed. Once installed, even if I don't need it, I should pull the chute on every run just to get into the habit. Saves a lot of brake lining also.

Someone watched my 9.42 run yesterday. They were surprised at how much power the car had when it ran that ET but said it launches like a turtle. I finally got my best 60' time of 1.393 but it should be in the very low 1.3's. I got a feeling the Comp Engineering 3 way coil over shocks are the next to go in favor of some real multi adjustable drag shocks. I've worked on different IC settings for the 4-link and the 60' time isn't improving like it should. It could also be just poor track conditions. I know there are local racers who go to another regional track then come here a week later and can see the 60' time difference between the 2 tracks.
