Need new struts
What's out there as far as adjustable struts? is konyi the only option or are there other's out there?
I'm chasing R/T's all over the place and i think i've narrowed it down to how my front tires are breaking the beams...sometimes it jerks outta the beams, other times it drags through the beams...so i want to lose these 90/10 drag struts and go with a strut that will slow down the extension a bit instead of the current set up that snaps it up. Last night the air was over 4000' and my R/T were all right there since car was running like dukey and was'nt leaving near as hard as it typically does, so R/T's were right there all night....60's have been identical all year long, at different tracks so chasis is working to stick it, but car is just reacting differently on the hit up front.
lemme know/put up a link, wanna get sumthin bought before next point race in a few weeks.

Re: Need new struts
Koni SPA1 and Lakewood are the only 2 I'm aware of.
You can always chain the front end down.

Re: Need new struts
I'm pretty much mind set on adjustable struts to slow extension rate/damping instead of chaining/strapping. I'm just nervious with a strap/chain when the car snaps up on the hit the sudden jerk/stop of motion at full extension or wherever i stop extension at would upset the chasis and cause rear end to unload a bit causing traction issues. Figure with an adjustable strut a person could slow extention gradually so it's not a sudden shock to the system so to speak.

Re: Need new struts
comp engineering limiters have worked well for me so far. i am using spa-1 struts. cant tell they are on the car, except that it picks the fronts up 6" and carries them instead of 2ft.
i have to say that so far i have not paid much attention to my reaction times, and i am also leaving on a foot brake.

Re: Need new struts
Digger, that's the thing, i'm looking for .00? to tighten things up sicne all those little .00? add up and it's alot easier to race when your not chasing things...the car is finally doing it's job thanks to ProSystem working my carb over, now it's just back on my shoulders to find out and correct my tree chasing problem.
just like yrs ago i could never understand why everytime i stood on the binders i'd break out, then i started thinking, hmmm that chin spoiler hangs down pretty low...similar to a stripe taker...took the chin spoiler off and got rid of that breaking out on the brakes problem LOL!! So i'm sure making this car leave the same as to how it breaks the beams will fix me up, right now my confidence level is low on the tree, used to dominate the tree, now i cant find it if you put a flashing light on the thing

Re: Need new struts
Chris Alston's Chassisworks's has some double adjustable struts in their VariShock line. I looked at them for my car, but they aren't in my budget right now.

I am using the SPA1 up front with the converter change I was lifting the front end 2 ft or better after adjusting them to full stiff I only lift it about 6'' and it rides out. Here is anouther option for struts. http://www.santhuffshocks.com/struts.html

But it's nice to hear that stiffening it up is doing what i would like to do too. Yesterday was great car wise, the terrible air we have...anywhere from 3980-4200'DA really slowed the car down so it left like a dog, so i was able to not worry about R/T's...was just able to kick tail LOL!!

Re: Need new struts
i'm running the koni spa 1's. Its either those or the tokico illumina 5 ways. I got a good deal on the koni's so i went with them. I cant believe QA1 or Strange doesnt make struts for our cars, but i hear you can modify a set of fox body qa1's to fit.

Re: Need new struts
I've ran chains on mine now for about 3 years. They have maybe 1/2" of travel. Small piece of chain with 2 grade 8 bolts and that will fix your problem with the front end not acting the same every pass.

Re: Need new struts
I use the koni spa1's also and they are a great tuning aid, except i ran out of adjustment and needed limiters. I still can tune them even using limiters, and still feel a difference, they also will let the front settle down better than 90/10's do, feels better going down track.

Re: Need new struts
No kit just some chain I had laying around. I just made sure the car was on level ground and layed on the ground and cut the driverside wheel to the right and drilled a hole in the upper spring purch and stuck a grade 8 bolt from the inside out, put on the chain, washer and a locknut. Let the chain hang down to the arm and measured to the last loop i needed on the chain and cut it off with a zizzwheel, then let the chain hang and marked, then drilled a hole in the a-arm and put the bolt, washer, and locknut on. Same goes for the other side, just cut the wheel to the left slightly so you can get in behind it. Works really well for Pro tree racing. I'll get a picture tonight, I have to go finish taking my motor out and figure out what I hurt this weekend..

Re: Need new struts
Screw that...send him the cash instead in an envelope!!!! Case of beer $13.00, cost to ship said case of beer $23.00. thanks OPEC.
That sounds like a very interesting system, I may have to give that some serious looking at since i have some left over cable from a past project.

Re: Need new struts
it works great, i was using short links, but they would bind and hold the front suspension compressed some times, that was un acceptable. I then made them longer and used cable thimbles (the u shaped things lol) no bind at all, and i used forged eye bolts, 1/2 inch on the control arm, and used the longest full threaded ones i could find, so its adjustable by almost 2 inches at the cable, and works out to about 2 1/2 at the wheel, when i dont run nitrous i dont use the limiters so i put 2 large washers in the wheel well (welded) and use those for a hanger for the limiters, that way there is no flapping cable lol. I will try to shoot a few pics tomorrow, and by the way they are 1/8 cable

Re: Need new struts
I got a few crappy pics of the limiters, but they are in the holders not on the arms.
this is the top eye bolt
lower eye bolt in the holder
location in control arm
