Launching

How come I can only launch around 2k before tires start to spin? Is that because of my brakes?

Re: Launching

Not to brag but i am far from stock and I can only footbrake to 2000 rpms. Once I pop the brake and get on it, my converter flashes to 3500 rpms. 2000 RPMS is fine for you

Re: Launching

Weight transfer, getting the front to lift and the rear to squat.
Lower rear tire pressure hepls too.
I ran 9lbs in my slicks with srcew it studs. I ran 12 to 15 lbs in my radial street tires. In my street car no way chould I give it full throttle. My best past on street tire was 12.74 to 1320ft but my 60 times were like 1.95 sec. I always rollered into the throttle, lots of poeple at the track thought I used a power adder because my car got louder as I rollered into the throttle. I ran 13.60 once when I floored the car off the line leaving rubber about 600 ft.

Re: Launching

This is gonna make me sound stupid but i dont know much about racing. Is there a trick to a launch? Or do you just step on the brake with one foot and push thew accelerator with the other and then release the brake once the engine is revved up?

My street car had BFG drag radials (like 6 sets), but agianst a 406,victor Jr. intake, with aluminum heads and a comp 292 cam well I could pitch the car sideways at 60 mph. I had a continental 2500 converter but @ 2000 rpm it had 400 hp and nearly as much TQ. I wanted to do drifting in the same car. I have 16 or 17 trophies from drag racing at LACR before they closed.

If your sportsman racing (or any other drag racing) the best thing to is to do the same thing every time. Get a system before you get to the track. You don't want to feel pressure with your at the tree. You have to get to know your car, knowing what it can or can not do. There are different way to get higher mph or better ET's. For a stock car or a 300 hp car preloading the suspention alittle using the brakes getting into the converter is a good idea. But not too long as it will develop heat, as your on the converter. practice at dirrerent rpm ranges 100 or 200 rpm differents and see what works best form your car. This is why guy who have owned thier car for 20 years do well, They just know thier car well.
