14s, those heads are junk. smogger 70s 400 heads are good for door stops though. grab an XE274 cam and vortec heads with a performer rpm air gap, or some dart iron eagle 200cc heads and run with them. Would probably pick up 80hp easily.

I wouldn't be building too much power running a stock GM 400 crank. Seen lots of them busted. My brother built a 400 a couple of years ago, crank only lasted 50 to 60 passes. He got disgusted and gave me the engine. I'm putting it back together with a eagle crank and 13.7/1 forged pistons. Hope it lasts longer for me. It was a balanced assy too.

vortec heads are $260 new each or $550 for the sdpc modified ones. grab an intake for $150, sell off your old heads and intake and you'd be rocking.

Re: what kinda power with this:"
ok,those heads complete ready to bolt on? for 550
and then with the heads you mentioned and the cam and intake ,whats your best guess on horse power with the rest of motor?and is THAT enough for 12s in the quarter?

for $550 they are bolt on and go. you will need centerbolt valve covers, which the stocker tins are $26 for the pair from that scoggin-dickey parts center SDPC place as well. With those heads, XE274 cam and performer rpm air-gap vortec intake you are looking at 12.20s easily with a 3500 stall and 3.73 posi with 26" slicks. Some have dipped into the 11.90s with this same combo as well. Just remember with a flat tappet cam to run rotella shell oil so that it doesn't eat the cam. I ran 15w40 oil with a similar type cam.
