Help me pick drag tires
Ok, so I know I don't post here much, heres my set up:
84 z28, 355, 700r4, 3500 hughs, 4.10's (fourth gen rear), 26x10.50x15 mt et streets
last time out it ran a 12.450 @109.96mph w/1.670 60'
The tires may hook one round, may not the next. I run 16psi in them, and try to do the same burn out each round. It is almost time for some new rubber, so I am looking at options this time.
Now, I am moving up to a 27x10ish, 11ishx 15. The car is at 6200 at the top end with the converter locked (shift at 5800) so I would like a little extra wiggle room.
I don't feel good about going to anything larger than a 27, because with the fourth gen rear, the tires stick out a little further than stock. The car is used strickly for bracket racing, so the tire can be either a full slick, or a dot slick. I would like to know what some of you guys opinions are. Which brand/style. Why do you like this tire over that tire, experiance with diffrent brands, ext.

Re: Help me pick drag tires
if you want a 27", theres only a couple available..
27x10.5-15
MT ET Street
Hoosier QTP
they are both DOT tires and should be good for your application.. from what i hear, et streets and QTP's are bias ply and should be run at less than 12psi..
btw, a 1" increase in tire height will drop rpms by 200 on the top end.. 6200 will become 6000.. 28" will be a little under 5800.. all at 109mph on the topend..

I love my Hoosier QTP's. I got them from www.harlowracing.com
They are great guys and always match the roll out on a set of tires.
5678TA:
I have run 18psi in my 26" x 8.5 Hoosier QTP's. I didnt think it would be safe with 12psi. Although I dont run tubes either. I havent tried them any lower than 18, but I might have to try it out.
Oh yeah, Last time at the track, I pulled 1.61 60ft times with the QTP's.
Thats with a vaccum secondary carb and a th350 with 3500 stall and 3.73 gears.

Re: Help me pick drag tires
Ok, so mabey try the hoosier 27x11.50x15's?
Any body ever run both the m/ts and the QTP's?
if so, which one did you like better?
I have been running the mt's for 2 years now, and I am just not all that impressed with them, but mabey I'm doing something wrong. Hopefully the 27s will allow the car to 60' a little better, after looking at some of my launch pics, the 26s seem to wrinkle pretty hard.
Thanks guys

I run Hoosier QTP DOT's on both cars:
Camaro:
26x9.50x14 tubeless @ 18 psi
New 2007 season. Look like new
'57:
27x10.50x15 w/tubes & screws @ 19 psi
New 2006 season. They're about done now.
I don't run the really quick times a lot of you do, but the tires are very consistent for me.

Re: Help me pick drag tires
I would put as large a tire as I could, rim width and clearance. I'd also run a stiff side wall tire, and keep them aired up. Many guys run much too low on air pressure, that causes the tire to buckle and wad up. you have to have enough air in them to keep the center of the tire in contact with the track. I made the mistake of running too little air when I started racing too. It takes as much time tunning the suspention as it does tunning the engine.
