Power Opinion

Ok here is the dilemna i'm in. I just got a $3000 loan and i have a motor almost completely assembled. I'm wanting 400 horsepower but with gas im realizing my .500 lift cam might just have to go. I have vortec heads and i'm taking them possibly this weekend to get modified but damn its going to run me close to another $500 for rockers and all..

Option 1

350 4 bolt main
Bored .060 over
Flat Top Pistons
Edelbrock Performer RPM
650 Speed Demon carb
Vortec Heads off a boat (great shape)
Federal Crankshaft
stock rods
Comp

Option 2

Save $400 and and get a cam with .450 lift.

(my slow computer at work froze)

Re: Power Opinion

With my old combo I had a L98 block, new heads, headers a little cam, and other small stuff, and a good tune work and made 300 RWHP and 320 RWTQ.
I am making more with my new stroker, and they both ran on pump GAS!

I assume you mean the price of gas may drive you to a more economical cam.

400 HP shouldn't be a big deal with something in the 268-274 duration range.

Re: Power Opinion

I've read that vortec heads like more duration than lift, and the XR268 makes just as much power as the XR282. But the XR268 is still too big.. Could i call Comp and have them grind a .450 lift cam with more duration? Would a .450 lift cam and 1.6rr work?

Re: Power Opinion

I was checking this Lunati Camshaft out. It has alot of duration
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2&autoview=sku

How much should i have with this? My dad's 310 horsepower LT1 has a .447 lift cam and im looking for at least 375

with my performer that should push the peak power a little higher in the powerband. But were building this bute this weekend so any suggestions would be appriciated!
