305 goes 12.39 @ 107.08mph
went out to silver dollar again today for some testing. i put a new tire on the car and wanted to figure out what it was gonna want for tire pressure and launch rpms, etc. seemed to really like a 2800rpm launch speed when foot braking, went a 12.41 @ 108mph on a 1.65 60'. i wanted to try one launch off the transbrake, so i let it ride at 4100rpms on the floor the very last pass i made. went 1.64 60', 12.39@107.08mph. my little bro came back to the pits all extatic that the car picked the tires up 6-8". i didn't believe him so i talked to a couple of buddies and they all agreed. i wished i had a pic of the launch, but i don't...
here's a pic of the car in the pits with the new 29x9 hooser slicks on it.

Re: 305 goes 12.39 @ 107.08mph
wow, grats man! Thats impressive. What was different from the past weeks? The electric water pump and different meats on the rears?

Re: 305 goes 12.39 @ 107.08mph
that's it! water pump drive and the new meats. i have to figure out the DA so i can compare last week to this week a bit better, but the air last week was better from what i remember. i also put in another 2* initial, which brought my total intial timing up to 23* and total timing of 39*.

You got to cut this out !!! You're going to bum out all the guys who spent big bucks on aftermarket cylinder heads, stroker motors and roller cams etc.
Try locking out the timing so that you have lots and lots of initial, yet don't over advance it in then traps. 39deg indicates slowed combustion burn speed (or inaccurate timing marks) ,possibly needs more jet.
What do you think caused the ET/MPH reduction/gain the most, the slicks or the electric water pump? What was your new rpm thru the traps?
How did your new 1/8th mile et and MPH compare to before?
With the tall Hoosier slicks you should be all set for the juice.
They tend to grow more in the traps the faster you go.
I'm going to need to get something tall(er) for my car with the 406+N2O.
Did you have to do anything to the wheel wells/quarter panel lip to fit the 29" tall slicks?

Re: 305 goes 12.39 @ 107.08mph
tall 9x29's when set at around 10psi so they squat down tend to give a strong sling shot effect out the hole. The more the tire tread squats and wrinkle walls on launch, the longer the tread foot print and effective gear ratio at the starting line (better traction). Then at the top end they tend to grow in diameter helping the top end charge (MPH). Sort of like a variable gear ratio. Radials don't do this quite as much as real racing slicks do.
Just don't get carried away with low tire pressure or the top end gets unstable.
Tubes and wheel rim beed screws are recomended if you run low tire pressure.

Re: 305 goes 12.39 @ 107.08mph
i've got rim screws in the there, but i'm running 18lbs. didn't have a problem with hooking.
i need to lock out the timing, that's something i've been meaning to do, just haven't gotten to it.
1/8 mile previous best was a 7.94 @ 85mph, my new best is a 7.82 @ 86.6ishmph
i think that the water pump and the tires did me about the same amount of reduction. new trap rpms are right at 6250rpms.
fitment was not a big issue. i had already rolled the fenderlip and beat the inner fender in to clear an old tire combo. it's got PLENTY of clearance
----------
diggler, my car was running 6500rpms through the traps on a 28" tall tire, which is too much. the car has 4.56's in it, i needed a tire that was gonna lower my trap rpms, not raise them, lol! i think it's obvious that the car is working right.

Damn, how much faster you think it would be with 50 rextra cubes? 11.8x maybe?

Re: 305 goes 12.39 @ 107.08mph
Based on your 1/8mile times and mph there is still more in the car.
12.30's@109 possible
Possible front end alignment needed. Possible too much timing in the traps (high speed spark retard) or not enough jet. You're right at the point in the traps where a hyd cam craps out. (RPM) may have to adjust the valvetrain so the hyd lifter plunger is at the very top or very near the bottom to get the last few rpms out of her.
A 7500 rpm capable valvetrain and 5.38's or 5.57's would put it in the 11's.

Re: 305 goes 12.39 @ 107.08mph
i'm piecing together a kit. gonna run some nitrous works solenoids and run a zex perimeter plate. gonna put some 125pills in it at first i think. i don't wanna go too big yet, i still got playin' to do. i'm probably not gonna have all the n2o stuff ready to go till next season. i'm putting a forged piston in this motor to make sure things are gonna be ok too.
i did not wanna change rear gears, lol! i needed new tires anyhow, but seriously, these things are 11lbs lighter EACH than the old 275/60/15 drag radials. you should feel just how light this wheel/tire combo is. it's right at 34lbs total.

Good times. Are you still running the TBI? I sprayed (150)mine to a 7.88 in the 8th and a 12.49 (ran out of gear) Stock TB, motor, heads and a compu cam.

Re: 305 goes 12.39 @ 107.08mph
I think just saying it has a 305 in it and most 305 (RS) were TBI atleast that is why I thought it might of had one. But none the less it still runs very strong.

Re: 305 goes 12.39 @ 107.08mph
i gotcha. but you'll not find one single 305 anywhere close to what i'm running with a stock tbi unit on it, lol! Fast355 does some pretty incredible stuff with the tbi, but i don't think even his high hp 305 is running tbi anymore.

Re: 305 goes 12.39 @ 107.08mph
here's a very crappy quality video and a very crappy quality screen capture from the video of my totin' the front left tire. this was a foot brake launch so it wasn't the "violent" 8" tire totin' that i was talking about off the transbrake

Re: 305 goes 12.39 @ 107.08mph
TONS of 305s have pulled the wheels. My old one was going 11.60 at the track on a little spray, and the stock class guys are rocking 18" of air easily, and that's with less than .45X lift. Although matt is doing surprisingly well for such a small budget, just think if he actually had a 350 what he could have done instead of dumping coin into that 305 over and over

The Camaro is still TBI and still daily driven. Still runs just as hard, if not harder than it did when it turned the old times out. The Van has a mild TPI 305 now though.
