Getting the 82 back in track condition.

Well as some know built the new engine 2 yrs ago BBC 496 with lots of neat things. Shortly after install engine spun rod bearing and trashed everything but 2 rods - after lots of fighting with machine shop whom I let assemble
he bought all parts, re machined and I assembled. Get new engine in, first pass out breaks carrier bearing cap on 9" rear never getting a pass, fix that - install 5500 stall which was to tight in pump which spun pump bearing in trans... Fix that. Finally get about 20 passes in car getting it down to 9.67 @ 141 with more in her then it breaks sprag in th350 breaking drum and output shaft.. ahhg.. There was anoter issue I forgot to mention, had an aluminum pulley come apart breaking the motor on my CSR water pump!!!
Yeah, I had some problems! Anyway, Trans is out getting new heavy duty Drum as well as low/reverse support from 700 trans that is heavier piece.

Hope to get it back for start of new season and continue my quest for 9.5 natural, then hope to spray for a 8.999999 maybe..Well see.

yep, ordering a 383 shortblock this week. I got most everythign i need to put it together except headers and injectors and a water pump Gonna be AFR heads, big hydraulic roller, HSR, longtubes, the works

Looking for 11's this year. Motor should be stout.

Wow!
Impressive build man! Afr 195's or 220s?
Should think about ditching the Mass air soon.
Much easier to tune though.

Re: Getting the 82 back in track condition.

yeah i'm done playing around with bolt ons i did 12's with bolt ons and thats all i ever wanted.

Now its AFR 195's, the new eliminators. I think the MAF system will handle the motor and its all i know at this time. I'd do a SD conversion someday but i'm not ready to learn how to tune that system

we'll see how the MAF handles it. If i dont like it i may just scrap GM all together and get a FAST, bigstuf, or some other aftermarket EFI

I do plan on nitrous too later this year once the motor is dialed in. who knows, i hope its 11's on motor and maybe 10's on the spray? we'll see.

The mass air wll work just fine, and is easier to tune, just offers some restriction. But with the short intake route on the Camaro's, its much less noticable. 11's will be no problem as long as the car stays effecient.
Sounds like a winning combo..

Re: Getting the 82 back in track condition.

yeah i hope its efficient. I'm thinking 3800 stall or so for the new converter. I may keep 3600 for better street manners tho. I really want 4000 for best ET but i still have that little 10 bolt problem
